Dress to Impress: Why You Should Dress Nicely for Class at OU

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

With the end of the semester quickly approaching and the workload getting heavier and heavier, it is easy for students to resort to wearing sweatpants every day. Do not get me wrong, a good pair of sweats is always comfortable, but sometimes it is better to suck it up and look as best as possible for the day, especially at Ohio University.

The first reason why you should dress up for class instead of rolling out of bed and walking to class in your PJs is the future benefits. Right now most students at OU are thinking short term, like how the heck they are going to pass all of their finals. The thing about OU is that it is one of the largest media schools in the country. This means that classes are just one of the many ways students network. Just think: the girl sitting next to you could be your co-worker in half a year if you are a senior. This is something to consider when going to class with the same clothes or baggy sweats that have been worn for two days straight.

Another advantage to dressing nicely for class is the impression that the student leaves on her professors. A well-put-together student will be better respected by a professor, especially if the work put in by the student in the class matches the appearance. Professors at OU are keys to internships, life advice, and letters of recommendation. These are all very important things for a student to remember when they have to start job or internship hunting. If the professor is impressed by your work and also has no questions about your personal hygiene, it will improve the impression you leave on them so that they can feel confident recommending you to a company.

The third reason to dress nicely for class is the best reason. If you look good, you feel good. Even if it is not a proven fact, the way you dress can also make you feel better about yourself because you are not concerned about what people think about you. It boosts morale and also confidence when your appearance is at its best because you do not feel out of your element either. It is easier to do better when you feel like the best version of yourself. Finals may be tough and take up almost all of your sleep but a swipe of mascara only takes an extra minute, and it is well worth it.
