Summer is quickly approaching and with that season comes the humidity, the blazing sun and the 80-degree weather. Even though we Ohioans cherish the warm weather (well most of us at least), it’s important to stay cool. Here are five fun ways to beat the heat with your friends at home this summer.

1. Water Balloons

Ā

Filling up water balloons and having a water balloon fight is a fun and classic way to stay cool in the summer. You can also put a twist on the game ā€œhot potatoā€ and pass around the water balloon. Whoever breaks it loses!

2. Slip ā€˜n’ Slide

Ā

Playing with a slip ā€˜n’ slide may sound childish, but it is still a fun way to get wet and cool off during the summer. If you are ā€œballin’ on a budgetā€ you can also just call your friends, get a huge blue tarp from someone’s garage, get water and soap, and then you have your own homemade slip ā€˜n’ slide!

3. Popsicles

Ā

Popsicles are the dessert of summer. Of course you can get them from your local grocery store or the beloved ice cream truck, but another fun way to get ahold of a delicious popsicle is to make one! All you have to do is get an ice tray or a popsicle mold, pour on your favorite pop or juice, and let them sit in the freezer overnight. In the morning, you have a cold treat to get you through the day.

4. Kiddie Pools

Ā

Kiddie pools are cheap alternatives to get wet and cool off if you or your friends don’t have access to a pool. Ā Other than just sitting in the pool or lounging around on a raft, you and a friend can buy glow sticks and fill your pool up with them at night. It’s super and easy and looks cool! Or you can make colored foam and mess around in it with friends.

5. Water Guns

Okay, playing with water guns sounds immature too, but it is a fun, cheap way to cool off in the heat. You can also be creative by filling them with paint instead of water and having a paint war!
