5 Ways to Celebrate Homecoming This Year

Like pretty much everything in this world, Ohio University’s 2020 homecoming has been canceled in favor of a safe, virtual celebration. While we may all be apart at this time, we can still come together safely! Here are some ideas on how to celebrate OU homecoming.

Participate in a Virtual Event

Ohio University has rolled out some virtual events that current and past bobcats can participate in. You can check them out at the official homecoming 2020 website. A lot of them incorporate several homecoming traditions in a virtual setting. Gather your friends and tune in to some of the events!

Connect with Other Bobcats

What makes OU so great is that no matter what you’re doing, you always have the support of the bobcat family. We need that family more than ever now, so consider taking this special week to connect with other members of the family. This could look like reaching out to alumnus and getting tips for post-grad, asking some OU friends to hangout safely or via Zoom or acting as a mentor to underclassmen. Swapping Athens stories or sharing your love for your school can definitely get that serotonin pumping through your brain and help spread that bobcat spirit.

Relive Old Homecomings

YouTube is a wonderful place to find old and rare gems. Use the video-sharing site as your official homecoming archive and explore any old homecoming parade videos. Groove along to the Marching 110 and relive old homecoming football games. I know it’s not exactly the same, but it’s better than nothing!

Cook or Purchase Your Favorite Homecoming Treats

A major staple of any gathering is the food. OU students are notorious for their kegs and eggs celebrations. If you are of legal age, purchase your favorite morning alcoholic beverage and serve up your eggs your favorite way! Grab your roommates or friends on the tradition too! If you’re away from Athens, consider finding recipes and cook up some of your favorite Athens grub. If you’re lucky enough to be in Athens now, hit those local eateries up! Your favorite local restaurants and shops need your support!

Wear Our School Colors

It’s simple but effective. By just slipping on your favorite green and white hoodie, it can bring back the feeling of walking across College Green on a crisp fall day or recall memories of good times with good friends. By pulling out your OU gear, you are showing support for our school during a week when bobcat pride is always high.
