There are many different fashion and lifestyle trends that circle throughout TikTok, however, there is one that seems to be sticking out the most: The Clean Girl Aesthetic. It’s a very specific aesthetic that involves a reformed style of clothing, makeup, hair and lifestyle. Many people question this aesthetic, asking “is it really that clean?” or “is it even realistic for people who aren’t either an influencer or have a lot of money?” Let’s take a look at the different aspects of The Clean Girl aesthetic and see what you think.

Clothing

The outfit can make or break the whole vibe of someone trying to achieve this aesthetic. Basics such as black, white or gray tight-fitting tops paired with light wash boyfriend jeans are most common. The clothing pieces are very basic and usually have no patterns or textures. For jewelry, people typically wear small gold hoops and necklaces. A good word to describe the outfit would be “minimalistic”.

Makeup

The “no makeup” makeup look is the go-to with this aesthetic. This usually consists of the smallest amount of face makeup (foundation or concealer) and a natural color of blush. Also, eyebrow gel to create the feather look, a light highlight on the tip of the nose and cheekbones and a clear lip gloss. The point of the makeup is to make the person look glowy and fresh.

Hair

The most common hairstyle that you’ll see is the slicked-back bun or ponytail. This is usually done with a middle part and a good amount of gel. It is considered “clean” because there is not a single piece of hair out of place.

Lifestyle

Besides the physical appearance of this aesthetic, there is a whole lifestyle attached to it as well. This consists of having matcha lattes, going on “hot girl walks”, having a 10-step skincare routine and being productive by waking up early.

There are many different aspects to achieving the clean girl aesthetic. Because of this, others may argue that it costs a pretty penny to have the clean girl look. The lifestyle is also very time consuming, which is why many believe it is not realistic for “the average person” such as college students or full-time workers. It is also considered by some to be problematic because the only type of girls shown on TikTok for this aesthetic are white, skinny and have straight hair, therefore, some may be discouraged to try this aesthetic. Even though in the end this is just a trending aesthetic established on TikTok, it may be unrealistic, problematic and cost a lot of money.
