Ah yes, Tinder. The app where your ex found his latest booty call, but also the same place where your friend found the new love of her life. It’s a conflicting parallel universe. Do they all want one night stands? Is anyone interested in a substantial relationship? Will my mother get a Facebook notification when I sign up? (Yikes for that dinner conversation). All of these are common questions that come from the newbies, but the question remains, is Tinder for you?

Okay, so maybe the lines are blurred (and so is the only picture he has on his profile), but that leaves wiggle room for you to at least give the app a try. Worst case scenario, you wake up in the morning to an inbox of compliments, not so bad right? Best case scenario, you add each other on social media, only to find out he loves his mother, puppies, and Netflix… (#issahuband). It’s trial and error, nobody is hiding their intentions on here. In fact, it’s common for bio’s to say, “No hook-ups”, or “hook-ups only.”

A new feature on the app allows you to swipe through groups of friends who are looking for parties or to simply make more friends. You can go through your fellow Facebook/Tinder using friends and create a group as well. This is a great way to ensure safe swiping and to meet new people!Speaking of friends, be prepared to see yours on the app as well. You would be surprised how common it is to come across someone you already know or recognize. In some cases, this is a great way to establish a further connection if you’d like to.  We all have that one person who were constantly running into, but know nothing about. Newsflash: He’s probably on Tinder if he’s not taken. Sometimes life won’t pass you that perfect moment for a cute neighbor to help you carry your groceries in. Tinder is here to apply that final push you need to make an introduction.

So whether you’re swiping for the man of your dreams, a man for the night, or ego boosts to scroll through while sipping your morning coffee, Tinder happens to be your one stop shop. And don’t worry! No one’s judging. These days Tinder is often referred to as a social media app thanks to the new group swiping addition. No different than your Facebook account (okay maybe a little different… unless your uncle is on Tinder, in that case, swipe left and delete your account girl). Overall, you’ve got nothing to lose. The world is at your fingertips, so start swiping today! You never know until you try.

Hi everyone, I'm Petra (PEE-truh) and I'm an ODU alumna who has branched out to sunny Southern California. Following graduation, I didn't have too much of a plan for where I was going in life but I knew to stay in Virginia was not an option. I wanted more than what was offered there so I started applying to almost every job in all my dream cities and life led me to San Diego. I now do sales, marketing and social media management for a great startup company, Voterfied. I love everything about San Diego and the work I'm doing here. So my advice to everyone, get out of your comfort zone! Take that leap of faith and let life guide you to exactly where you're meant to be. HCXO, Petra!
