Many college students–myself included–often find themselves struggling with managing their finances while in school. Even though I am lucky enough to have the time for a job, I often find myself struggling between paychecks to pay bills or even to buy myself groceries. If you, like myself, are looking for a side hustle to fill in those gaps, I have you covered. Here are four ways to make some extra cash as a college student.

  • Dog-sitting!
    • If pets are your thing, I highly recommend dog/pet sitting. Pets are easier to hang out with than kids (in my opinion), and you are getting paid to hang out with our furry best friends! Another bonus is that you have more freedom to create your own schedule, and you can still be productive while watching the pets! To promote your services, you could tell members of your local community that you are available, print fliers and post them around your campus, or try spreading the word on social media!
  • Baby-sitting!
    • Much like the last option, this is something that you can promote very easily. When you’re home for break you can spread the word on social media, and tell your family to spread the word as well! If you get along well with kids, then a side hustle like this would be your jam.
  • Be a Doordash or GrubHub driver!
    • If you have a car and are able, being a food delivery driver is also a great option for fast cash. You can create your own schedule, decline drives you don’t want to take and do it all from your own vehicle! You can find the link to become a Doordash driver here and a GrubHub driver here!
  • Tutoring!
    • You can reach out to your high school teachers of the subjects you excel in and see if any of their current students need a little extra help. Or, if you’re proficient in a current course in college, you could post fliers in your student center to offer academic help to other students! You can set your own rates and this also offers a flexible schedule.

To all of us broke college students out there–best of luck. Some of these have been tried and true from my experience, and I hope you find luck in your hustle!
