My Top Five Songs on Spotify and Why You May Like Them Too

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ODU chapter.

Music is a key way people connect with each other. From one artist to another or from the artist to the listener, music is relatable and touches people’s hearts. Spotify is my music app of choice, but whatever app you choose to loudly play your favorite jams, here are my five newest off of my Spotify and reasons why I love them!

“These Old Boots Have Roots” – Aaron Watson

Aaron Watson has been playing country music since 1999 and has never changed who he was over the years. With his album Vaquero (2017), Watson has always wanted to make a statement. In an interview with Tomi Lahren, Watson spoke of how larger music industry officials wanted him to change his image from “Texas Country” to “Pop Country.” On the cover of Vaquero, which means cowboy or cattle-driver, he is seen holding his guitar with the Texas state flag behind him. I love Watson’s music because he is always true to himself and his feelings and he is always authentic. In These Old Boots Have Roots, he sings about how the boots he’s worn have helped him create lasting memories and lessons. He sings about how he’s a true believer in being his own person and following his own self which is very honorable.

“The Wolf” – The Spencer Lee Band

If you don’t know by now, the last part of the Fifty Shades trilogy released on Feb. 9, 2018. With the finale to the trilogy came an amazing soundtrack. The Wolf, shown during the car chase scene between the Grey’s and a mysterious vehicle, is by far my favorite song from the soundtrack. The song has a very intense and sensual sound, which is to be expected from a Fifty Shades soundtrack, but if you haven’t heard it yet, definitely give it a listen.

“For You” – Demi Lovato

First off, Demi Lovato has one of the best voices I’ve ever heard and I am devastated I am not getting to see her during her Tell Me You Love Me world tour. Although this song is not from her new album, her vocals are shown beautifully on this track. There is a section of the song that I just have to spoil where the music slows a bit and then she hits a phenomenal note that just makes you want to grab your hairbrush and flip your hair all over while lip-syncing… Okay, maybe I’ve done that, but give it a listen. It’s iconic.

“Motor Runnin’” – The Jompson Brothers

Formed in 2007, the Jompson Brothers were composed of Chris Stapleton, Greg McKee, Bard McNamee and J.T. Cure. Released in 2010, this rock song (with a bit of country flair) is an all around great song to listen to loudly with the windows down on a summer day. Many people just know of Chris Stapleton for his song Tennessee Whiskey, but I highly recommend checking out the Jompson Brothers. Stapleton’s voice still shines through but they also show a great side of rock mixed with a little bit of country feel.

“All I Think About Is You” – Ansel Elgort

Many know Ansel Elgort for his acting roles in The Fault in Our Stars and Baby Driver, but many forget that Elgort also creates music. In 2014, Elgort created the alias Ansolo to create four singles throughout 2014-2016. In 2016, Elgort dropped the disguise and started publishing music under his own name. All I Think About Is You was released in 2017 as a non-album single. Ansel’s voice is honestly heavenly, but he also puts in a lot of work to how the track itself sounds and he makes sure it all flows together. This is definitely one of my favorites that I’ve found!
