Valentine’s Day has a special way of making people either gush or cringe! Usually, if you’re a gusher, you’re probably in a relationship. If you’re a cringer, there is a good chance that you’re single. This is my first year being single after a six-year relationship, and I barely can think of the day without getting annoyed! Relatable?

Then it occurred to me: “Why do I hate this holiday?” I can’t really say that it’s because it reminds me that I’m single because I notice that every day. Is it the fact that I’m not being bombarded with chocolate? Don’t have someone to take me on dates? Or someone to say I love you to? YES!! Of course, I want those things, because that’s what the holiday is about! Literally, the whole day is insisting that you do these things! However….

Valentine’s Day is the day of love, and nothing is wrong with loving yourself a little extra today! Want some chocolate? Buy it for yourself! Get together with single friends and have a cheesy romance movie night! If you’re feeling adventurous, go on a speed date, or have a night on the town! Be your own Valentine and make the most of it by showering yourself with love!

Why stop there, Shout out to Groupon for having so many things for you to do and at a super great price! There is nothing wrong with going to a movie or dinner by yourself! Time to evolve beyond the stigma that it looks lonely to go out alone! That screams nothing but independence because not only are you showing the world that you do not need someone else to enjoy yourself but you also learn that it can be just as much fun (and peace) doing things by yourself!
