How to Deal With Cuffing Season Skipping You

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at ODU chapter.

One of the most romantic seasons has finally arrived and it’s gracing us with its presence. The fall is one of the most beautiful seasons we have the pleasure of encountering and I’m not just saying that just because it’s my favorite time of year. Alright, maybe I am, but nonetheless, fall has so much to offer. Romance being one of the main courses fall has to give is undoubtedly why I love it so much. As the weather gets cooler, many see this as the opportunity to get comfortable and go missing for a while. By missing I mean, finding someone you’re feeling a lot and possibly coupling up. For those of you who are unaware, fall is also recognized as the “cuffing” season. Cuffing season arrives every year right alongside fall because after partying hard and being single all summer most people want to cool down and cuddle up. The cold weather equates cuddle weather, because who wants to lay alone during the season of comfort? No one if given the choice.

However, cuffing season does not mean that you will definitely be chosen. Trust me I’ve been skipped plenty, so I do speak from experience. To be chosen or to not be chosen, has the potential to go both ways. Often enough not everyone will have the mindset and you’ll be forced to wait it out for your turn. Although it is very much possible to be single and still enjoy cuffing season. One of my favorite alternative ways to enjoy cuffing season while single is to utilize my other single friends. I utilize them by spending time and enjoying time with them. It is possible for you to do most if not the majority of things you would do if you actually were cuffed. Activities like watching movies, having conversations, cooking, going to the pumpkin patch, going on outings, etc.

Being single during cuffing season is not the worst thing in the world. It’s all about the mindset you decide to have. Instead of moping and complaining about how everyone seems to have someone and you don’t, only makes you feel worse. The day I decided to take being single as an exploration of who I am and who I wanted to be, I easily forgot about relationships. Trust me, your season is coming and you being impatient does not help to make things go any smoother for you in the meantime. Get your single friends together and keep each other warm this season and simply enjoy the space you are in momentarily because that is exactly what it is…momentarily.
