Winter-Themed Instagram Photos and Captions

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

Like the High School Musical icon once said, “It’s out with the old and in with the new.” The new year calls for a new Instagram theme! Start your year off right with a winter-inspired aesthetic look. Here are some photo and caption ideas to get you started:

1. Winter Wonderland

Don’t miss the opportunity to snap some photos during this snow-filled season. Snow is the classic backdrop for winter photos, whether it’s a clean white layer of it on the ground or it falling fresh from the sky. Pair your photo with one of these captions:

Snowflakes are winter’s butterflies.

If kisses were snowflakes, I’d send you a blizzard.

“Walking in a winter wonderland.” —Richard B. Smith

“I smell snow.” —Gilmore Girls

2. Homey

If going out into the cold isn’t your vibe, stay bundled up inside with your snug jammies, cozy sweaters, and fluffy blankets. Show off your comfy indoor lifestyle with one of these captions:

There’s snowplace like home.

License to chill.

The snuggle is real.

It’s a beautiful day to go outside and remind myself why I stay inside.

Outside is snow place to be.

3. Fireplace

Sometimes, we need that extra toastiness when the temperature hits sub-zero. Warm up by the fireplace, and snap a photo while you’re in your element. It’s the perfect contrast to your snow-filled photos! Match your photo with one of these captions:

Just your average glow-up.

It’s quite literally lit.

Is it getting hot in here?

4. Streets

Head out to the streets for a photoshoot. As we head into colder temperatures, a sort of picturesque charm falls upon cities and towns, and it feels as if time has slowed and come to a halt. A charming photo needs a charming caption. Try out one of these:

“Oh, the places you’ll go.” —Dr. Seuss

Wanderlust and city dust.

My kind of town.

A concrete version of paradise.

5. Fairy Lights

Fairy lights are suitable for all occasions, and winter is no exception. If you don’t have access to any fairy lights, light some candles! Use one of these captions to pair with your photo:

Leave a little sparkle wherever you go.

The only thing getting ‘lit’ this weekend are these lights.

I love my lights a whole watt.

6. Ice Skating

Ice skating is a winter pastime for everyone. Friends, family, and couples can all enjoy the humor in watching each other struggle to skate. Check out these captions to pair with your photo. There’s snow possible way these winter puns could get any worse, right?

Have an ice day!

Ice to meet you.

Today’s forecast: Holy crap I can’t feel my face degrees.

Ice skate like nobody’s watching (and hopefully nobody is watching…).

7. Hot Cocoa/Coffee

When in doubt, choose this simple yet versatile photo idea. Enjoy a piping hot cocoa or coffee in the comfort of your own home, outside in the brisk morning weather, or indoors at a café. Pair your photo with one of these captions:

Winter: My new excuse for drinking more coffee / hot cocoa.

Hot chocolate is like a hug from the inside.

Hot chocolate weather is the best kind of weather.

But first, coffee.

8. Snow Much Fun

Bring it back to the days when snow days meant more than no classes. Snow days meant going outside to build snowmen, make snow angels, have snowball fights, and so much more. Recreate your childhood fun for a fun-tastic photo. Try out one of these captions:

Snow much fun.

You’re never too old for a snowball fight.

When it snows, you have two choices: shovel or make snow angels.

Do you smell carrots as well? (with a snowman)

It’s only cold if you’re standing still.

When life gives you snow – make snow angels.

We hope these ideas help you to add spice to your Instagram photos and captions! Let the photoshoots begin!
