Everything is covered in red and the taste of cinnamon candies has your face burning up like it’s in the ninth circle of an Inferno. “Am I in Hell?” you might ask. Nope, it’s just February.

As all us single NYU girls are painfully aware, D-Day V-Day is rapidly approaching and it’ beginning to feel like your own personal Hell. Yeah, the week of February 14th might seem like the worst, loneliest time of the year if you’re without a significant other, and it might also seem like the perfect time to start contemplating your ultimate, inevitable, crazy cat-lady fate. If you’re as panicked and upset as that previous statement suggested, then that means you’re at a ten and we’re going to need you to bring it down to a two. Never fear, for we here at HerCampus have some exciting (and pretty obvious) news for you: you don’t actually have to be a crazy cat-lady…because you can instead hang with Woman’s best friend! That’s right, if you have the immeasurable privilege of having a dog, then you’ll never really be alone. Sad about being single with no plans on Valentine’s Day? Don’t be. Here’s fourteen reasons why you’re main bitch has got you: (with photos of NYU’s own main bitches, provided graciously by NYUSnaps)

1.      They’re always down for a spontaneous adventure.

2.      Even when your idea for an adventure involves something stupid for them.

3.      They don’t mind when your bad ideas get them into a tight spot.

4.      They always think eating is a good idea.

5.      And won’t judge you when your cooking sucks.

6.      They’re always down for a good laugh.

7.      And they’ll be down when you need a good cry.

8.      They will support you in all your academic endeavors.

9.      And will even encourage some artistic ones.

10.  When they get clingy, it’s nothing short of adorable.

11.  But sometimes they, too, have days where they just can’t even.

12.  And in that case, they love to just cuddle the day away with you.

13.  And if they see that you can’t even, they’re still down to snuggle, too.

14.  But most of all, they will love you unconditionally and they’re just about the only surefire way of curing your February blues.
