Steve Matthews ’15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

Name: Steve Matthews
Nickname: “Dio”
Hometown: Rhinebeck, NY
Major: Language and Mind and Pre-Med
Year: 2015

Go-to repeat song on iPod: I usually have it on shuffle, but lately it’s been “She Lit A Fire” by Lord Huron.

Favorite movie: Rebel Without a Cause

Favorite quote: “In the midst of winter, I found there was, in me, an invincible summer.” -Albert Camus

Inspirational people, books, etc.: On the Road by Jack Kerouac is an inspirational book. I really enjoy the wanderlust and really just the overall lust for life. Oh this reminds me of another quote, “Not all who wander all are lost.” -J.R.R. Tolkien. That guy is an inspiration too.

Fun Fact: I come from a big Greek family. Four brothers.

HC NYU: What are your interests and favorite activities?
SM: My interests include playing guitar, writing short stories and music, languages, culture, history, and admittedly a good amount of TV and movies.

HC NYU: How would you describe your personality?
SM: It’s tough to describe. Not because it’s so unique but rather it’s hard to describe yourself. Almost like recording your voice and listening to the playback. It sounds different than you expected. But I would have to say I am ambitious, passionate, idealistic (I know saying this here is a little self deprecating but I still value it), and personable.

HC NYU: What is your ideal romantic date in NYC?
SM: Ideal date in New York City encompasses a lot of possible things for me. I’m as comfortable and enthusiastic about going to a concert as I am walking through Central Park after it has snowed. The ideal date depends more on feeling than it does on location.

HC NYU: What are some qualities you look for in a girl?
SM: Pretty, smart, or at least intellectually open-minded. Kindness and sweetness go a long with me too as long as it’s not overdone. Able to laugh at any and all times. Also I would have to say passionate for this one, as well. I like to see that girls are self-motivated and very much into whatever things they are pursuing. It’s impressive even if our interests don’t match.

HC NYU: What do you think is the most confusing thing a girl does?
SM: Nothing specific. Varies from girl to girl.

HC NYU: If you could take your girl to any place in the world, where would it be?
SM: Anywhere she would want because at this point she would be ‘my girl.’

HC NYU: What are your future goals and aspirations?
SM: I’d like to be a doctor and novelist. If I find more time, a folk singer/songwriter just because why not?
