It’s October. Halloween is quickly approaching, and you still don’t know what you’re going to wear.
Don’t worry I’m right there with ya! For collegiettes, Halloween is a weekend-long event requiring multiple costumes- because let’s be real, who would be caught dead repeating an outfit, especially during the same weekend? This is where the creativity is supposed to kick in. You start thinking about how to turn your everyday wardrobe into attention grabbing costumes. But let’s face it, you wish you could just buy something and make life easy.
This year I’m taking a new approach to choosing a costume. I’m going to approach it like any other outfit, but I’m going to take advantage of my membership at Rent the Runway. There are hundreds of dresses at my fingertips just waiting to be worn! Here are my top 5 costume ideas, all of which are based around a Rent the Runway dress
Greek Goddess
What you’ll need:
Halston Heritage Liquid Gold Dress
The drapy style is flattering on many body types, and the creases are reminiscent of a toga. Just grab a wreath of leaves to wear on your head, and some strappy gladiator sandals and you’re ready to go!
OR
Haltson Heritage Icelandic Dreams Dress
Who says you can’t wear white after Labor day? This stunning dress also invokes the idea of greek goddess or a toga. Again, just grab a wreath for your hair, or you can even just use a ribbon as a headband, and some strappy gladiator style sandals, and you’ll be the best dressed at any party!
Hippie
What you’ll need:
Halston Heritage Disco Print Butterfly Dress
With its 70’s inspired sleeves, and psychodelic pattern, all you need are some cool go-go boots and a peace sign necklace and you’re ready to go!
Candy Corn
What you’ll need:
The Erin by Erin Fetherston Mad Mod Mini Shift
This 50’s Mod shift dress looks just like everyone’s favorite Halloween Candy (ok, well I don’t actually like candy corns, but they are definitely the most famous Halloween Candy!). Grab a bag of candy corns to bring to the party, and you’ll be the sweetest girl there!
Pebbles (from the Flinstones)
What you’ll need:
Parker Time to Pounce Dress
Attention grabbing animal print is always a good idea! Just put your hair in a pony tail and stick a plastic bone through it to complete the look!
Cat woman (or any other character in a tight black ensemble)
What you’ll need:
Haltson Heritage Cut it Out Dress, Pency Dance to the Beat Dress, OR Nicole Miller Look at me Cut Out Dress
These three dresses are all form fitting and super sexy in a classy way. Pair them with black heels and a black mask, and you’ll feel as sexy as you look!

If these outfits aren’t for you, here are a few other budget friendly ideas to get you started:
Masquerade Ball / Carnival: Throw on a pretty dress and buy a mask (Party City, or any costume store will have masks, most are under $10!)
Workout Barbie: You can either stock up on American Apparel, or go through your and your friend’s workout clothes and pull together all the colorful spandex you can find!
Frat Star: Raid your guy friends’ closets for Frat tanks, sunglasses, and a paddle! Yes- we are perpetuating stereotypes, but it’s all in good fun!
