Nostalgic Items from Your Childhood

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

Kids today will never know the hype of Juicy Couture tracksuits, the colorful stacks of animal Silly Bandz, and the original “You’re watching Disney Channel” wand intros. While they may never know the joys and memories these classics hold, all late 1990s and early 2000s children will. Here are some of our childhood favorites for a walk down memory lane:

Minute Maid Juice Bars

Summer days weren’t complete without a Minute Maid Juice Bar. They made a sticky mess, but it was impossible not to want one.

Kooky Pens

Back-to-school shopping was a dread, but these Kooky Pens made it worthwhile, especially if you were allowed to have your own. These pens were the true hero behind every homework assignment.

Silly Bandz

There was no better way to pass the time at school than to show off your collection of Silly Bandz and trade them with your friends. The fun made all of the arm hair-pulling worth it!

Neopets

Unpopular opinion: Neopets was more fun than Club Penguin. Many people have probably forgotten about this virtual pet website (and their passwords), but this website made procrastination an easy task.

Off the Shoulder Shirts

An off-the-shoulder shirt, jeans and combat books was basically ever middle school girl’s uniform.

Juicy Couture Tracksuits

In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Juicy Couture Tracksuits were one of the biggest trends around. From Paris Hilton to Mean Girl’s Mrs. George, everyone was rocking it!

Zoey 101

Zoey 101 was one of the few Nickelodeon shows that Disney fans actually watched. Its sudden ending left fans desperate to find out whether or not Zoey ended up with Chase…  and even today that desperation remains.

Retro Snake Game

The Retro Snake Game was the original app. This anxiety-ridden game gave the player the impossible task to survive a minute without making the snake bump into the wall or its own tail.

Hot Topic Hair Extensions

Colored hair was a hot trend in middle school, whether it was temporary dye or hair extensions. For girls who didn’t want to get their hair dyed, Hot Topic’s hair extensions was a must.

The Lizzie McGuire Movie

“Hey now, hey now!” From a soon-to-be high-schooler to Italian pop star Isabella Parigi, Lizzie McGuire was living every girl’s dream. This movie holds a special place in our hearts… after all, it taught us about catfishing!

Floam

Before slime, there was Floam –  anything could be made into a fabulous Floam creation. Their commercial was right… props to the marketing team!

Disney Channel Wand Intros

The original stars of the Disney Channel Wand Intros were the actors of Lizzie McGuire, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Hannah Montana, and Wizards of Waverly Place. These segments lasted only a few seconds, but we still can’t help getting the same warm feeling we did back in the day when our favorite show was about to come back on.

There you go… now enjoy going into a nostalgic internet hole about some of your personal favorite memories from those good ol’ middle school days.
