Happy November! It’s crazy to think that the month is almost over. Amidst this crazy time, one thing I have found to be soothing is listening to podcasts. Podcasts are a great escape from this chaotic world, even if it’s for a short period of time. The best part about podcasts is that there is something for everyone: whether you want to learn something new, study up on industry trends, seek dating advice, or play detective with the true crime shows. Below are some podcasts I’ve been loving this November:

  • Decoder with Nilay Patel

The COVID-19 pandemic has definitely uprooted the business market and made the future of the industry uncertain. The 2020 presidential election has created mayhem and impacted the business industry in a way like never before. This podcast interviews executives from the worlds of tech and business, policymakers from across government, and a few other assorted troublemakers about the problems they’re solving, the trade-offs they have to make, and the opportunities they see in the future. Definitely worth a listen if you are interested in the business industry.

  • Play Me A Recipe

A podcast perfect for the Thanksgiving break, given the talent in cooking that we have all discovered during this pandemic. This recipe-oriented podcast  has passed the spatula on to some amazing chefs who have shared recipes that are particularly meaningful to them and their family. Follow these recipes to create something truly special. My personal favorite is Hetty McKinnon’s Creamy Tahini “Mac & Cheese” With Tater Tots!

  • Stuff You Should Know

This podcast is just what the name suggests. Hosts Josh and Charles cover a variety of topics, usually popular culture with a comedic twist. Their “biggest hits” include episodes on spam, hangovers, tipping in restaurants, cheese, Barbie, and pinball- so they truly cover a diverse topic range. Recently, I enjoyed the ‘Short Stuff: How Eyes In a Painting Follow You’ episode where they explain the weird phenomenon of how eyes in a painting sometimes follow you around the room. Having seen the Mona Lisa in person, I was definitely intrigued by this and the podcast did a great job explaining a weird concept.

  • How Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade Works

This is another one of the Stuff You Should Know podcasts, but this podcast deserved special recognition. The Macy’s Thanksgiving parade has become iconic when it comes to kick starting the holiday season in America and the history of it is usually unknown. The back story for this New York extravaganza is worth listening to.

Podcasts have definitely grown to success over the past few years. While listening to classics like The Daily by The New York Times is a staple, I’ve enjoyed branching out and listening to new podcasts! What are your favorite podcasts? I’d love to get some podcast recommendations.

Manika is a sophomore majoring in Media, Culture and Communication and minoring in the Business of Media at NYU. While her heart lies in the sand dunes of Dubai, she couldn’t be any happier to live in the city that never sleeps, New York City. Manika has the biggest sweet tooth that always welcomes desserts so if she’s not found chasing pretty pink sunset skies, she can be found digging into desserts! When she isn’t found doing either of these, she’s definitely snuggled up in bed rewatching Friends for the millionth time! Reach out to her on instagram for comments, suggestions or simply say hi @manikaa.p
