Best New Movies of October

It’s finally October - the month of fall spookiness! If you’re planning on celebrating Halloween all month, we have the perfect movie recommendations for you!

Here is a list of the best new movies of October so you know exactly what to see when you’re looking to be scared.

Joker

Let’s address the elephant in the room first. Joker was such a highly anticipated film and it created massive waves with its release. The story of Joker is extremely fitting to go along with the spookiest month of the year; it’s impossible to not get the chills while sitting in the theatre with Joaquin Phoenix giving it his all in this unsettling performance. It definitely isn’t the movie for everyone, but if you’re interested in seeing a movie that leaves you thinking about a lot of tough questions while simultaneously making your skin crawl, then this is the one for you.

Wrinkles the Clown

Continuing on both the spooky and the clown path, let’s talk about Wrinkles the Clown. This is another creepy clown movie, but in the format of a documentary and with a teensy bit of adorableness thrown in as well. Sure, the trailer makes it seem like a regular horror movie, but Wrinkles the Clown is a dark comedy-esque documentary that follows the story of a real-life man who wanted to have a post-retirement life that was anything but ordinary. Taking place in Naples, Florida, this documentary on Wrinkles the Clown covers how he came to be, and what remains of his legacy in the present day. If you’re not a clown person, you might not be thrilled to see this movie. But if you’re interested in the macabre and want to hear the story of how a single man became an urban legend and even gained the adoration of some people, then you may want to give this little known movie a chance.

Parasite

This one may have sneaked past you since it was a limited release, but if it’s still showing in theaters near you it’s a definite must-see. Classified as a “dark comedy thriller”, this foreign film starts off seeming like a curious insight the juxtaposition between the lives of two South Korean families: lower-class family and a rich, upper class family. However, things quickly dissolve into something much more intense as more comes to light. There is so much to be discovered with Parasite as it highlights the intricate balance between two different socio-economic levels, and weaves in a slightly sinister thread to stitch together a movie that you’ll be talking about for a while.

Zombieland: Double Tap

Sequels can often be a risky gamble, but honestly, how can you go wrong with a second Zombieland movie? All of the original actors from the first hit film have come to reprise their roles in the much anticipated sequel. It’s been 10 years since the original, so hopes are high to see if this movie can live up to its predecessor (spoiler: it most definitely will). For those of you unfamiliar with Zombieland, it’s a hilarious dark comedy about how one unlucky college student finds himself trying to survive the zombie apocalypse with the help of two grifter sisters and the actual embodiment of every “Flordia Man” there has ever been, who also happens to be obsessed with Twinkies. Zombieland: Double Tap continues this story and adds more fun to the mix by continuing to add life into the often stale zombie-movie genre.
