5 Companies to Look Into for a Greener Spring Cleaning

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

As we approach Spring, cleaning is a must! Declutter, donate, and disinfect. But many cleaning products may contain damaging chemicals that can harm your health and the environment. Not to forget that they also contribute to the ever growing waste of our planet. Choosing sustainable products is an excellent choice towards a greener lifestyle. Here are 5 companies you should check out before tackling your spring cleaning.

Key Product: Laundry tablets

Laundry can be just as efficient without the chlorine bleach, petroleum, or allergens. Blueland’s laundry tablets are successful in removing various common stains and their products are available in different forms. They offer a range of items for dishes, laundry, and other general cleaning supplies. The items can be purchased in kits (with multiple products differing for each category) or starter sets (a budget-friendly way to test out their products). The perfect present for environment-enthusiasts, Blueland also sells gift cards for their store.

Key Product: Recycled Plastic Trash Bags

Plastic trash bags are commonly used to dispose of garbage. Luckily, Grove has created 100% post-consumer recycled plastic trash bags that have the ease of regular trash bags, but creates much less waste. With different sizes to choose from, it’s an easy switch to make. Further, each purchase of Grove trash bags assists removal of litter from rivers and waterways across the United States (in partnership with Living Lands and Waters). In addition to household products, Grove features products for personal care, baby and kids, pets, and clean beauty.

Key Product: Concentrate

The concentrate solution from Branch Basics and a little water can go a long way. The concentrate is made of plant and mineral based ingredients, and can be used to make a multi-purpose cleaning spray for the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry. Pair it with their Oxygen Boost and handling the toughest stains (either on countertops or fabrics) will be effortless. Their items are available in starter kits, refills and bottles on their website. Additionally, Branch Basics has instructions, as well as DIY video tutorials for creation of  the cleaning solution.

Key Product: Solid Dish Soap and Dish Brush

Sponges are a thing of the past with The Earthling Co.’s dish brush. Parts of the brush can be recycled or composted and the brush head is replaceable. This eliminates the need to keep buying plastic sponges and creating extra waste. The brush can also be paired with The Earthling Co.’s solid dish soap, making dish washing more environmentally friendly. The company also offers other products ranging from hair, body, and homegoods. They also provide bundles and shopping by allergen is also available.

Key Product: Reusable Dishcloths

Three Bluebirds dishcloths are a great reusable alternative to paper towels. They can be used with liquids and work on multiple surfaces such as glass, stainless steel, and countertops. The dischlothes can replace 17 rolls of paper towels, and the best part? There are over 100 fun designs to choose from to match any aesthetic. There’s even an option to design a custom dishcloth! While Three Bluebirds only feature dishcloths, their product is also available through Package Free, another company which sells sustainable goods. They have a variety of categories including, home, health and beauty, and on the go. And similar to Blueland, they offer kits and gift cards as well. Their website also features products from other vendors, in addition to their own.
