College students are always eager to return to school, whether they dreaded the academic workload or spent the summer navigating financial or social crises. Regardless of the circumstances, there is always something to look forward to when we return.
The Freedom of Distance
While having supportive parental figures is a blessing, we all need room to breathe. Being away from home grants us a sense of autonomy that is often impossible to find under our parent’s roofs. Letting go of the expectations they hold or the images they have created of us can feel like breaking out of a prison of perceptions. It is in this space that we finally begin to define ourselves on our own terms.
The Evolution of Friendship
Meeting new people in college is inevitable. You can turn your head and see someone you have never encountered before, even if you have been on campus for four years. There is always a new personality to discover around the corner. Of course, not every bond is meant to last; some clash, and some fade, but every connection serves as a lesson that helps us grow.
The Pulse of Campus Life
Even if you aren’t the most social person, there is always something happening. Whether it is an official campus event, an off campus gathering, or a small get together hosted by a friend of a friend of a roommate, there is always an invitation waiting. You are rarely bored; in the college environment, every day feels like an event, even if it’s just a quiet moment shared with others.
Chasing the Vision
There is a unique thrill in progress. Whenever I am in class, mapping out my next move, or securing an internship, business opportunity, or volunteer position, I feel the distance between me and my goals shrinking. It is a powerful feeling to realize that I am actively building the life I once only hoped for. That momentum is what keeps me excited to wake up every morning.
Finding Home in the Journey
Everyone has different reasons for loving this season of life, but I find myself looking forward to it all. My “home away from home” has truly become my home. Every year, the summer feels like a long countdown until I can finally return to the place where I am becoming who I am meant to be.Â
