Over the last week, Los Angeles started a strike that spread throughout the country faster than the speed of light. For decades, teachers have been fighting to get the salary that they deserve. In order for their voices to be heard, the teachers of Los Angeles Public Schools declared a strike.

Not only did the teachers in Los Angeles stop going to school to teach, but this rebellion spread all across the country. It first started off with a couple of thousand teachers, but soon turned into 30,000. While many people understand the anger that many teachers have about the amount that they’re paid, some feel that this strike is very inconsiderate to students.

While this strike is going on, there are about 900 schools whose students are not being taught. The controversy over this strike is that the rebellious teachers are selfishly neglecting children that actually want to learn. It is understandable that teachers want their voices to be heard, but this is largely affecting the education system. For every teacher that is on strike, there are about 21 students who are teacher-less. Parents and other concerned individuals are now questioning various schools  wondering what they are going to do about this conflict. Here are some questions that are worth discussing:

  • Do you feel that the teachers on this strike are doing the right thing?

  • Do you think there are other ways the teachers can express their concerns instead of going on strike?

  • What do you think the schools affected by this strike can do in order to get the teachers to come back?
