Which Fit of Jeans is Right for You?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Jeans are an essential piece of clothing in any women’s wardrobe. A good pair of jeans can make you feel ready to conquer the world and look pretty damn good while doing so. Jeans can be adapted for any occasion, dressing down or dressing up, a good pair of jeans can make an outfit and be pulled out day and night. The right pair of jeans will suit people of all shapes and sizes, and with so many different styles out there you will be spoilt for choice.

High waisted jeans

If you see your stomach as a bit of a problem area then a nice pair of high waisted jeans are a great option to give extra support. High waisted jeans also work great with crop tops; they allow you to show off the top while not showing to much skin, if that’s not what you want. They tend to look better in skinny or straight cuts and with flats or heels.

Boot cut jeans

For a nod back to the 70’s try a boot cut style which looks great on those with an hourglass figure or those who want to give the appearance of an hourglass. This is a very flattering cut and is the ultimate classic Jean that adds a more sophisticated spin to an outfit. Take it to the extreme and go even wider with flares!

Mom jeans

For a 90’s throwback the mom jean is a great style for a more relaxed laid back outfit choice. They offer a comfortable choice of jean that look good cropped or rolled over as well as long. This is a style that can suit all body types, and would look great simply paired with a nice white t-shirt and a good pair of heels.

Skinny jeans

Skinny jeans are those jeans that everyone owns and can be worn in any way, casual during the day and dressed up at night. Skinny jeans look great cropped and a frayed hem adds a bit of edge to an outfit, and in the summer a pair of ripped skinnies are a good way to wear jeans and keep a bit cooler.

In terms of the right jeans for your body type, what’s most important is choosing jeans that you feel comfortable and happy in. However, some styles suit some body shapes better that others. For those who are pear shaped mid-rise, straight leg jeans would look great and highlight your best features. For apple shapes again a straight leg jean is a great choice, and a mid-rise is best because a low rise can highlight the dreaded muffin top. For those with a larger chest a wide leg fit is a great way to balance things out so as to not be to top heavy.

Again the most important thing is choosing jeans that you like whatever the style and whatever your shape.
