Three Natural Beauty Remedies for Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Love is in the air! Whether you’re in a relationship or single; let’s get pampering this Valentine’s Day with Her Campus Nottingham’s DIY Beauty Remedies.

For Your Body – Lemon Sugar Scrub

Ingredients:

150ml Baby Oil

200g Granulated Sugar

1 Juiced Lemon

Method:

1. Mix the lemon juice and sugar together.

2. Pour in the baby oil and stir.

Rub this on your entire body just before a shower or a bath.

Afterwards, your skin should feel oh so smooth, exfoliated, and fresh! Use brown sugar to exfoliate deeper and if you’re feeling adventurous; try Coconut Oil instead of Baby Oil or, add herbal tea instead of lemon juice!

This also makes a great gift for friends or family – it really is love in a jar.

For your Face – Tomato Scrub

Ingredients:

½ a Tomato

3 teaspoons of fine Granulated Sugar

Method:

Again, a quick fix.

1. Simply spread the sugar on the tomato.

2. Dampen your face slightly.

3. Rub the tomato into your face until all the sugar and tomato juice is on your face. This should resemble a face mask.

4. Leave the mask on your face for the next 15 minutes.

5. Wash the mask off and moisturise your face.

Tomatoes are rich in Vitamins A, C and K – all found in the face creams we get from Boots and Superdrug. And, according to Hello Natural, the Lycopene in tomatoes fights the pollutants that damage our healthy skin cells which as city dwellers; we are very much prone to.

Want another reason to try this out? The acidity of the tomato works wonders to reduce clogged pores and acne. It’s a fab winter remedy.

For your hair – Avocado Shampoo

Ingredients:

1 Ripe Avocado (Peeled, Pitted and Pureed)

2 tablespoons of Baking Soda

4 tablespoons of Warm Water

Method:

1. Blend all the ingredients together until you get a smooth paste.

2. Apply to your hair and wash as usual.

According to LiveStrong.com, Vitamins B and C in avocados repair dry and damaged hair. It might not look so appealing BUT, the creamy texture of the avocado will leave your hair feeling both silky and healthy.

So give your skin some TLC this Valentine’s Day!
