Over the years I have come to develop a very complex relationship with snow, which involves both excitement at the prospect of the many activities it allows as well as the many it hinders…
Snow Angels:
There is something incredibly liberating about lying spread eagled in a few inches of frozen water and waving your arms and legs about to create the perfect snow angel…
Sledging
If you’re lucky enough to live by a big hill, then this is the ultimate snowy pastime! Nothing beats the run and jump onto your Nan’s old tea tray which sent you hurtling down the hill at lightning speeds, trying your best to avoid trees and fellow sledgers.
Â
Driving
A not so positive aspect to the snow season in the UK is if you actually have to travel anywhere, which most people do… You can expect icy roads, build up on the motorways and scary driving conditions…
Â
Do you want to build a snowman?
The most exciting moment of British wintertime is when there is enough snow to roll up a few mounds and make a snowman. The excitement of being able to build your own Olaf or Snowdog is relinquishing until you stand back to see your crumbling masterpiece and sadly watch it melt away to an unrecognisable mound over the coming days…
Â
It’s freeeeezinggggg
No matter how many years of snow we have experienced, everyone continues to underestimate the body’s ability to retain heat… You leave the house to walk to campus only to discover your mittens have been left on the kitchen table and you must now deal with your fingers feeling like icicles for the rest of the day.
