Review – Revolution Cocktail Masterclass Experience

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

When you’re a university student or young adult, what better way is there to spend an evening than with good food, multiple cocktails, and entertaining company? If any of these appeal to you then you are definitely in the right place, as Revs will provide a great evening out for your next end-of-exams celebration or special birthday bash.

To expand – for my housemate’s 21st birthday we (that is, about 12 girls) booked to descend on Revolution Corner House for a night of being taught how to make the perfect cocktail, followed by a three-course dinner to follow.

On arrival we were all welcomed and shown straight through to the back where there was a small area reserved for us, complete with a full bar and plenty of seats at the bar counter for us all to get up close and watch the cocktails being made. We were also all given a bubblegum daiquiri to enjoy and to get us going for the night ahead!

At our service for the evening was Tom the bartender, who did an excellent job at keeping us all engaged and made his explanations easy to understand, but with a touch of humour as well. After explaining and demonstrated some of Revs’ basic cocktail mixes, as well as the correct techniques to make them, we had the chance to try our newly learnt skills out ourselves through a series of interactive games, such as making a pornstar martini in a relay, or having to instruct a blindfolded friend to make a strawberry daiquiri. These were all made all the more entertaining because he ensured we were never without a drink to keep us happy, and for our non-alcohol-drinking friend the effort was made to make a special mocktail so she didn’t feel left out with just water.

The final part of this part of the evening was that we all got to choose, and make, a cocktail of our choice, complete with the signature decorations that Revs add to make your drink that bit better. I chose the cherry woo woo and would certainly recommend it to anyone!

As part of the masterclass package you also have the option to enjoy nibbles or bar snacks, during your experience or a meal afterwards, which we had opted for given that we were celebrating a special birthday. We had all pre-ordered which took away a lot of the stress on the night and meant that we were all able to sit down and just look forward to our food arriving. I had never eaten there before but the food was delicious and generously portioned. The only problem was that we were all so full of cocktails that we didn’t have as much of an appetite as normal to enjoy the food with.

Overall, I would highly recommend Revolution’s Cocktail Masterclass for anyone wanting to have a memorable evening with a group, whether it is for a special occasion or just because you want to treat yourselves. The staff were obviously highly knowledgeable and skilled in the making of the cocktails and our meal was good too. If I ever have the opportunity to do something similar again, I won’t be missing it!
