I have always enjoyed having my nails done and since moving to uni last year, I’ve been on the lookout for nails comparable to the ones I see while endlessly scrolling on Instagram – which was when I stumbled across Bethan’s page. Think abstract designs on clear nails and bright pops of colour and you’ve summed up her nail art lover’s dream of an Instagram. Bethan, the face behind the business, is a Nottingham-based largely self-taught nail artist who has been bringing Dorta nails to the city for over a year. The brands used are also vegan and cruelty-free, meaning you can treat yourself to a fresh set of gels that look good and do good too!

I booked my appointment via the BeautyStack app, also linked on Bethan’s page, which made choosing my design and booking time effortless – no awkward phone calls to salon owners here! You also have the chance to submit any questions or design ideas before confirming the appointment and paying a deposit, meaning I felt confident in getting exactly what I wanted. I also suggest contacting her directly via Instagram for custom designs or general queries.

The treatment consisted of a soak-off (I already had gel nails from another place which Bethan kindly soaked off for a reasonable, additional charge), file and shape and of course, the main event, colour and nail art, which lasts for around three weeks. I was there for nearly two hours and did not feel rushed at all, despite being a late evening appointment, and she really took her time to make sure each nail was perfect. I went for the classic leopard print and have genuinely never had so many compliments on my nails before (I unashamedly posted many photos on Instagram and was inundated with questions!) From leopard print to intricate floral patterns, there doesn’t seem to be anything that Bethan can’t do on your natural nails!

Bethan also was lovely and so easy to talk to; we chatted as if I’d been to her lots of times before, which made the sometimes awkward experience of trying a new place easy and comfortable. Her working space, above Q Hair and Beauty in Hockley (Lace Market area of Notts), is super relaxing and chilled with music, plants and an array of books and magazines, and being away from the hustle and bustle of the main salon made for a more intimate and friendly atmosphere. I would recommend Bethan to anyone wanting eye-catching, and definitely insta-worthy, gel nails, that you won’t be able to stop staring at – if having art on your nails is your thing, Bethan should be your new go-to girl.

Rating; 5/5 (it’s been two weeks and they are chip-free!)
