Rock City welcomed indie rock band Alt-J earlier this year to provide a night of chill music and eccentric tunes.

Post-pandemic concerts allow an experience like nothing else. A crowd hyped in anticipation of what was to come, the electric buzz of the venue accelerated the excitement of my experience. Alt J’s unique identity clearly appealed to audiences of all ages which was a great sight to see; a sea of differences assembling together to appreciate Alt-J’s live abilities.

From their opening track ‘Bane’ to their iconic ending anthem ‘Breezeblocks’, Alt-J provided the energy to ensure a memorable night. The instrumental breakdown between each song really set this concert apart from others, as these captivating compositions allowed a personal connection between the artist and the audience. Reserving their most iconic songs for the ending of the concert, the chanting of the crowd along to the tunes added a fun finale.

A special mention to the supporting artist Wilderado, who succeeded in the daunting task of matching Alt-J’s intense energy before welcoming them to the stage. Despite not having engaged with any of their music before, I left the show adding a few of their songs to my playlist. High energy artists contrasted with the chill music made for a memorable night that I would love to experience again.
