Fagin’s Twist takes the story of Oliver Twist and its iconic antagonist Fagin and turns it on its head. Through breath-taking dance, set against the stylishly moody backdrop of 19th century London, the two worlds of Charles Dickens and modern hip-hop collide in an explosive, adrenaline-filled evening of theatre and dance.
Telling the story of Fagin’s struggle to survive as a youth, and his gradual corruption into the character we recognize, Avant Garde Dance Company shed new light on a complex and, perhaps, misunderstood character. Other beloved characters, such as Oliver, Bill Sikes, Nancy and the Artful Dodger, are also reinterpreted and explored in this compelling and dazzling piece. As the company themselves put it, “a tale you think you know unravels and explodes.”
