Our Fashion and Beauty Guide to Athleisure Style

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Athleisure style has been trending in the fashion industry for a couple of years now. It doesn’t matter if you work out or if you’re not at all active; athleisure just works. It’s comfortable and practical, and trust us that’s all we need in a 9am lecture!

Athleisure style is also very cool and edgy which has been demonstrated by many models such as Kendall Jenner and Gigi and Bella Hadid who have sported these look both on the runway and within their own personal street styles. The style can can also be found in the pages of all of Vogue magazines and even worn by fashion editors making the look even sophisticated and high fashion.

We know that the Athleisure style is well-loved by us students so we’ve put together a few key pieces to take your Athleisure wardrobe to the next level, along with the best make up products to pair with each item.

Before we start though, we would recommend a pair of plain, white trainers that you love and are super comfortable, as these will be the most important feature of all your Athleisure looks and will always make your outfit look minty fresh.

The Co-Ord Look

Tabitha Grey Side Stripe Hooded Tracksuit, available at Misspap.co.uk for £30

Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint in ‘Uncensored’, available at Harveynichol.com for £19

We’re gonna start big and give you a completely new outfit. Co-ords are where it’s at when it comes to what’s trending and fashionable at the moment. This grey tape stripe hoodie and joggers set is perfect and even gives a nod to Gucci’s famous red and green stripes. Style these with white trainers and a matching backpack for uni or try the Instagram trend of wearing a pair of heeled sock boots and an undone duster jacket for a ‘too glam to give a damn’ kinda look.

Amplify this look even more with your favourite red lipstick and you’ll look like you’ve come straight from London Fashion Week. The Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint in the colour ‘Uncensored’ looks stunning on all skin tones.

The Oversized Sweatshirt Look

Ultimate Orange Crew Neck Sweater, available at Prettylittlething.com for £15

Urban Decay Naked Heat Eyeshadow Palette, available at Johnlewis.com for £39.50

This next Athleisure piece is a firm favourite for everyone; an oversized sweatshirt. This item is a must for every student’s wardrobe. You can just throw it on and instantly look too cool for school while feeling cosy af. Our pick is this gorgeous orange coloured sweatshirt which would look great with a pair of black skinny jeans or a pair of khaki camo print joggers for a more edgy look. Pair this with matching warm-toned eyeshadows like the ones in the Naked Heat Palette or Makeup Revolution’s I Heart Chocolate Orange Eyeshadow Palette which is a more affordable drugstore dupe.

The Puffer Jacket Look

KAYLEN-Mustard Cropped Hooded Puffer Jacket, available at Bluevanilla.com for £45

Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer in ‘Fenty Glow’, available at Harveynichols.com for £16

We’ve been seeing the short puffer jacket trend a lot lately and we’re loving the popping primary colours. Yellow is particularly on trend and looks best worn over an all-black outfit with a pair of white trainers. Wear it undone or simply over the shoulders to follow the ways of the fashion editors and bloggers, and look effortlessly cool. This look is pretty bright so go for a neutral makeup look by using soft brown eyeshadows and a classic nude lip gloss. We’re going to have to go with Riri again with her Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer in ‘Fenty Glow’ really does look good on all skin tones and makes your complexion pop.
