University can be stressful and emotional (to say the least) and because of this, students may take it upon themselves to find some sort of vice to handle every emotion coming your way. One of these vices should definitely be musicals! Listening and watching someone experience a variety of emotions is the best way to deal with your troubles…trust me I am a musical theatre expert. I hope one of these musicals will help with any emotion you’re experiencing and even if it doesn’t it wastes times and it’s something to procrastinate to.

1. The Last Five Years: If you’re going through a pretty difficult break-up the last five years can help get over your doubts. It’s a depressing film I’m not going to lie, but the songs are incredible and they’ll be in your head for days to distract you.

2. Les Miserables: Basically the musical version of ‘fight song.’ It’ll make you stand tall when someone’s making you feel small and all the lyrics can be applied to everyday life…even if it’s about the French Revolution.

3. Legally Blonde: If you loved the film version, you’ll love the musical. Feeling smart, sexy and motivated, this is the musical to let all your sassiness come through. Singing along with Elle will make you feel badass, with the ability to get into Harvard at the same time..which is necessary for everyday life

4. Mamma Mia!: This is simple. If you’re just feeling a little down in the dumps and need a pick me up this is the feel good musical for you.

5. Hairspray: If your emotion is anger at the political state of the world, particularly the treatment of other races, then this musical will get your blood boiling and political voice growing. All with some catchy songs in there as well.

6. Dream Girls: Feeling like the sexiest woman in the room who doesn’t need a man…then don’t fear Dream Girls are here to help out. Dance around your room with a hairbrush and belt your heart out.

My name is Leah Hemmings and I've just returned from a year abroad in America and I'm about to start my final year in History and American Studies at the University of Nottingham. Even though I am in my final year, this is my first time working with Her Campus and I'm really looking forward to what is in store for me. As you can tell from my job title I mainly enjoy all things entertainment and always make sure to watch a new film everyday (primarily because I get to veg out while watching them). At the same time I make sure to keep updated on anything new coming out in case its really juicy and worth a watch. Having the opportunity to write about something I love and enjoy and being able to share it with other entertainment lovers gets me excited about what I'm writing even more. Alongside watching films I love a good read and obviously writing as well as a nice nap here and there. I look forward to finishing my year at Nottingham with Her Campus and can't wait to share some of my blog pieces with everyone.
