Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher are engaged! Two of our favourite characters, and on-off couple, Jackie and Kelso from That 70s Show are very much on in real life. The two met on the American sitcom set in the 70s, which ran successfully for 8 seasons.
Back in 1998, Mila lied about her age to bag the part of vain cheerleader Jackie Burkhart. She told the producers of the show that she’d be 18 on her birthday, without deigning to specify which birthday! At 14 years old, Ashton was actually Mila’s first kiss. Mila told People magazine: “I was like, ‘Oh, he’s so cute, it’s the Calvin Klein model! Then I was like, ‘I have to kiss him?’ I was so nervous and uncomfortable. I had the biggest crush on him.” When Ashton found this out he was reported to be shocked, telling Weekly magazine: “I’m the first guy she kissed? Oh my God, I had no idea! I’m so glad I didn’t know that or it would’ve been too much pressure.”
In 2002, the Black Swan star (Kunis) embarked on a seven year-long relationship with Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin – no one can say that Mila has a problem with commitment! Mila denied engagement rumours to arts and culture magazine BlackBook saying “Not to say that I don’t believe in [marriage], but it’s just not something that’s important to me”. In 2010, the couple split amicably but kept it quiet until 2011 and apparently (according to her Rep) remain friends.
In contrast to her role as bitchy Jackie Burkhart, Mila shows her soft side in defending Ashton from the unkind remarks made by his exes in the press, telling Parade magazine in 2007 that “He’s still the same old goofball that he used to be”.
After three failed relationships, Ashton met Demi Moore when she was 41 and he was 25. The A-list couple became famous for their PDA-packed dates and lovey dovey tweets. In 2011 however, Demi announced plans to divorce, stating: “It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton. As a woman, a mother and a wife, there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life.”
Thirteen months later Ashton filed for divorce in L.A. Superior Court claiming irreconcilable differences. Two months later Demi filed a response in agreement; however, she asked to receive spousal support and compensation for her attorney’s fees – ouch! After a trail of cheating accusations though, can we blame her?
During the divorce it was reported that Mila and Ashton were getting closer, and by 2012 it was clear to see that their relationship was back to Kelso and Jackie puppy love.
Relations with Demi became more strained and Ashton did some growing up, claiming that he now understood the value of privacy. It was clear that he didn’t want to mess things up with Mila by blabbing too much to the press.
However, the couple didn’t let the paparazzi ruin their romance; they travelled the globe, hung out with Princess Beatrice, and attended each other’s sibling’s weddings together. Then last month Ashton popped the question!
Mila and Ashton are finally getting their fairy tale ending. Mila was quoted in August 2012 telling Interview magazine: “I’ve always been a big proponent of not working for the sake of working, because I don’t want to work for the rest of my life, I want to live”. Good for her! We at Her Campus Nottingham can only hope that Ashton makes all her dreams come true!
