This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

All this week, we’re going behind the scenes of Her Campus Nottingham with our #MeetTheTeam series. Today, we spoke to our Head of Social Media, Sinead Butler.

How did you hear about Her Campus and why did you decide to join our chapter?

I heard about Her Campus through their Twitter account as they contacted me after I tweeted that I had got into UoN on results day. I decided to join Her Campus because I thought it would be the best way to meet like-minded people who share a passion for writing and also to improve my own writing skills and to gain some experience working for a well-respected publication.

Favourite thing you’ve done this summer?

My favourite thing I have done this summer was definitely the month-long journalism internship working in the Centre of Policy Studies in Westminster for their publication, CapX. I really enjoyed researching and writing for them and seeing what goes on behind a political publication as it is an area I would like to pursue a career in.

What are you doing when you’re not writing?

When I’m not writing you’ll find me binge-watching a TV series – Killing Eve is my current favourite, definitely worth a watch if you like thrillers! Listening to music and seeing my favourite artists live is something I love to do too: Lorde, Childish Gambino, Rex Orange County, Cassia and The 1975 are just a few. When I’m not studying or doing those things you’ll find me in CRISIS, ironically having an existential crisis about life after uni. Finally, when I’m not writing for Her Campus I have my own blog (thoughtsofsinead.wordpress.com) and write for the university’s career service as well. (I write a lot).

What’s the most rewarding part of being a HCN team member?

The most rewarding part of being a HCN team member is that it gives you the opportunity to be part of a community that want to hear your opinions and thoughts on particular issues. Also having the platform to share your articles to a readership is great too. It’s a nice feeling knowing that there may be someone who might have enjoyed reading what you have wrote about – especially they if show this through liking, retweeting or sharing your work with their friends on social media.

What’s your favourite student hangout in Nottingham?

My favourite student hangout in Nottingham is Bunk which is a restaurant that specialises in cocktails and chicken wings. It’s half price every day until 10pm making it super cheap and student-friendly, and more importantly the food and drinks are delicious! Also their restaurants are super Instagram-able with the place being underground and filled with plants and neon lights. It’s the perfect student hangout!

What are your future plans and ambitions after university?

After university I would like to study for my Master’s degree, preferably in Journalism or Politics. I just want to be a student forever basically. Eventually I would love a career in journalism, preferably in politics or in an area concerning social issues, focussing on agendas that aren’t currently being represented in mainstream media. I would also like to have a go at film-making at some point because I would love to work on some kind of documentary series in the future and travel the world.
