Looks to Expect from the Oscars 2016

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

It’s that time of year again- award season. As the best cinematic films of the year all roll out at once, the speculation of who’s going to win creates a buzz in Hollywood that we mere mortals can only sit back and jealously observe. With the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards already done and dusted, we’ve already had a taste of the glitz and glamour of what’s to come in the next few weeks. But it’s the Academy Award that the nominees really want (if they’re not too cool for it). After all, is an actor really an actor without an Oscar?

Aside from all the winning and awards and speeches, what we really get to look forward to are the outfits. For the biggest event in Hollywood, this is the night to pull out all the stops and impress the world with your look. And with a fantastic selection of nominees, presenters and guests, we know they’re not going to disappoint. Here’s what we think the red carpet will hold for the Oscars 2016.

Jennifer Lawrence

With an Oscar already under her belt thanks to Silver Linings Playbook, J-Law is no stranger to the Academy Awards. Favouring a bold red at the event in 2014 and at this years Golden Globes, its unlikely that she’ll choose the same colour again for her Best Actress nomination, but we figure she’ll wear another statement diamond necklace (why would you not!). No matter what, we definitely know it’ll be Dior, and we’re praying she was telling the truth when she said last month that Amy Schumer would be matching her.

Kate Winslet

Nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in Steve Jobs, Kate knows the Oscars well having now been nominated seven times! Always timeless and elegant, Kate usually opts for a dress with a close fitting top half and a long, full skirt in one colour. With hair always sleek and shiny, Kate always looks like a classic movie star.

Rachel McAdams

Up against Kate in the Supporting Role category is Rachel who is nominated for her role in Spotlight. Wearing a typical Rachel McAdams look for the Golden Globes with a printed full dress and up do, her Critics Choice attire was a branch out into an edgier look. We reckon she’ll wear something more like the Golden Globes for a potential win at the Oscars, but we love the gothic look on her as well!

Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett’s nominated for Best Actress for her performance in Carol, and we can’t wait to see what she wears. Stepping out this year at the Globes from her usual figure-skimming dresses that make the most of her statuesque figure, we’re wondering if Cate will go for a more ethereal or bold look. At any rate, she’ll look as beautiful as ever.

And the boys…

As well as all the girls’ amazing dresses, we’re especially looking forward to seeing the ever dapper Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy all dressed up after their incredible performances in The Revenant. Gorgeous already, and even more so when polished to perfection, we, like the rest of the world, can’t get enough of them. And Leo, we’re crossing all of our fingers for your long deserved win!
