Krispy Kreme Doughnut Inspired Make-Up

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Here at Her Campus Beauty, the one thing we love as much as makeup is food; sweet treats in particular. If there’s a sweet treat that we can all agree on, it’s probably doughnuts. I often like to pop into Krispy Kreme (I still can’t believe that we finally have a store in Nottingham!) at the end of a long day for a nice snack. Deciding which one (or ones) to get is difficult though; they just all look so colourful and delicious.

Food inspired makeup has been a fun trend in the beauty community for a while now, with many people aiming to resemble their favourite chocolate bars or crisps. We were just thinking that as Krispy Kreme doughnuts are so pretty, it would only make sense to take some inspiration from them for our make-up, right? See below for our scrumptious product recommendations so you can match your make-up with your favourite doughnut.

Chocolate Dreamcake

Too Faced Chocolate Bar and Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Palettes, £39

First up are the classic chocolate doughnuts. Chocolate Custard is filled with vanilla flavoured custard and perfectly iced with silky chocolate, and Chocolate Dreamcake is filled with chocolate sauce and also perfectly iced with both milk and white chocolate. Of course, we have to mention the Too Faced and Makeup Revolution Chocolate Bar Palettes here as the eyeshadows are actually inspired by these very flavours and colours. Use the deep, rich shades to create a delicious smoky eye. You can even use a creamy shade like Mac’s Vanilla Pigment to capture the colour of the vanilla or the white chocolate. This is one of Mac’s multi-use products so it looks amazing as an inner corner highlight as well as a yummy highlighter for the cheekbones.

Strawberry Gloss

Nyx Liquid Suede Metallic Matte Liquid Lipstick, £7

The Strawberry Gloss doughnut really is a sight for sore eyes. Can someone tell me what highlighter it uses because that glow is on fleek?! This ring doughnut is topped with a shimmering, sparkling strawberry glaze. Nyx’s Lid Lingerie in ‘Whimsy’ gives a metallic tint of yummy, pearlescent strawberry to the eyelids which we’d say is a close match. Metallic liquid lipsticks are everywhere right now and Nyx’s Liquid Suede Metallic Matte in ‘Bella’, a crystallised strawberry shade, gives a similar effect. Top the matte liquid lipstick with a gloss to really resemble the doughnut.

Original Glazed (OG)

Mac Strobe Cream, £25 for 50ml or £10 for 30ml Now comes the OG of doughnuts. The Original Glazed. This doughnut, believe it or not, actually has links in the beauty world. This is the doughnut people refer to when complimenting someone on their fresh glow “lookin’ like a glazed doughnut”. To resemble this beauty, the main focus must be on making the skin glow. If you’re feeling it, why not try out the high fashion trend of glossy eyelids?

The Studio Eye Gloss by Mac and the Lid Lacquer by Nyx both provide a comfortable shine and can also be used on the cheekbones for that extra sweet glaze. Use a liquid or cream illuminator like Mac’s Strobe Cream or Topshop’s Glow Highlighter on the cheekbones for a heavenly sheen or mixed in with foundation for healthy, dewy skin. Finish the glow with any nude lip gloss of your choice and you’ll be just as fleeky as the OG.
