I had the pleasure of reviewing The Ruffs’ recent EP. The EP is titled ‘New Obsessions’ and maybe, just maybe, they’ll be yours. They’re a band who have played the local live circuit quite a few times but unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to catch them yet. However, I’ve seen that they are a part of Nottingham’s Beat the Streets line up, so maybe in 2018 I will finally have the chance to catch them.

I really enjoyed reviewing their EP because I don’t usually listen to this genre of music so it was definitely unfamiliar to me but I enjoyed it.

The EP itself has a fantastic vibe to it, it’s very rock and roll with a mix of indie. New Obsessions (the track), really kicks off the EP, you need to turn up your volume to get into it but honestly the sound resonates with you and your attention has already been held as the EP begins.

I love the backing track of MST. It definitely sounds like a song that could be featured in a film or on a TV programme. It has the ability to really engage the listener and it is easy to get lost in the song.

Alligator and Show me Ya Thingy are also great tracks. You definitely need volume for this EP to really enjoy it. All in all this EP shows that The Ruffs have great potential to go far.

Check out The Ruffs and who knows, they could be your kind of band! Follow their facebook https://www.facebook.com/theruffs/?fref=ts&ref=br_tf to keep an eye out for gig dates. They are playing beat the streets on Sunday 28th January which is set to be a great day for charity so that could be a great opportunity to see The Ruffs and raise money for a good cause.
