How to Transition your Wardrobe from Summer to Autumn (Without Breaking the Bank)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Autumn fashion is exciting and makes us want to get our boots and burgundy nail polishes out at the first sign of a crunchy leaf. However, transitional seasons can often be difficult to dress for and it can be far too expensive to buy a whole new wardrobe on a student budget.

We’ve all been there shivering on our way to a 9am lecture to then be left regretting the chunky knit jumper when trekking around campus a few hours later. Fear not! We have got you sorted here at Her Campus.

I have put together a few looks to show how you can combine your summer wardrobe (which, if you’re anything like me you’re a bit reluctant to wave goodbye to) with a few autumn trend essentials to take your look from summer to autumn without breaking the bank.

The Day Look

A denim skirt is a primary piece that can be dressed up or dressed down in all seasons. For a day look, pair with a statement T- shirt or jumper and tights for extra warmth. This look can be worn with almost any footwear so no need to splash out on new shoes.

If you’re looking for an extra casual look or something more comfortable for your long walks between lectures, add your favourite pair of trainers. To smarten the look, Chelsea boots in black or brown are your go-to shoes.

For makeup, take a fresher approach with autumn hues. Instead of an everyday pink nude lipstick, try a darker nude such as Revlon liquid matte in ‘Seduction’

The Evening Look

As much as we would love to continue to wear them, light summer dresses just aren’t practical for English autumn weather. The perfect solution is to combine them with knee high boots and a classic trench coat for added warmth on a cold evening out.

Now is also the perfect time to get those berry lipsticks out (you know you’ve been desperate to ever since last winter) to pair with this look.

Urban Decay’s new Naked Heat palette is ideal for those warm autumn shades of golds, bronzes, purple and red tones which will all compliment the lip colour.
