How to Style a Bomber Jacket

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

You may have noticed in the past year that bomber jackets are becoming more and more popular on the high street, and catwalks too, and these effortless jackets are not going away anytime soon. They come in all sorts of shades and patterns ranging from classic to colourful. Now shops are introducing long line bomber jackets to their collections. They’ve quickly become a celebrity staple, with everyone from Kate Moss to Kim Kardashian, and even North West, sporting the stylish and versatile jacket. Not sure how to wear them? We’ll show you exactly how to style this 80s revival trend.

Bomber Jackets are great for spring when it’s too warm to wear a coat but too cold to wear no jacket at all. Most are usually a thin material making them great for layering over jumpers or long sleeve tops. If you want to start wearing the trend a little earlier than spring, or if our faithful British weather stays cold for a while, then padded bomber jackets are the answer. For an everyday, effortlessly stylish look wear a bomber jacket over a plain t-shirt and pair with some black jeans and boots. This look goes well with every sort of bomber jacket. Why not try it with an army green/khaki bomber jacket, which according to Instyle is the season’s new must-have.

One great way to style bomber jackets is to wear them over a white shirt and light blue denim with flats like Olivia Palermo and Gigi Hadid for a put together day look. Note that wearing your bomber jacket like a cape is optional.

Go even more casual by wearing a bomber with leggings and trainers, they can spruce up any outfit. Take style notes from Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid and wear them with sportswear. If you have to wear your gym clothes outside and out and about then throw a bomber jacket on to make your outfit look more put together.

Bomber Jackets also look great with some distressed jeans and heels. I mean if Kim and Beyoncé are doing it…

For a more feminine look, floral bombers are the way to go. Victoria Beckham wears a long flowing skirt with a matching bomber jacket and Jessica Alba wears a bright floral bomber to give her jumpsuit a feminine edge.

Bombers don’t just have to be for a daytime casual look. Wear a bomber jacket on a night out, just remember to pick it up from the cloak room on your way out. They look great with heels over a bodycon dress or skirt for a smart casual look. Wearing all one colour like Kim and Rihanna with this look really adds a sophisticated edge.

The beauty of a bomber jacket is that it is so versatile, it can be worn day or night, with trainers or heels, by men or women, and it always looks stylish at the same time. Most high street shops like Topshop, New Look and Zara sell them so they are easy to get your hands on and for reasonable prices too. Buy one that will go with everything or buy a statement patterned bomber to jazz up any outfit. Why not get one in every colour? We have a feeling that this trend is going to stick around.
