Summer is over, the temperature is cooling, and we all have to face up to the daunting reality of hitting the books and starting our studies all over again. This can be even harder if you’ve just got back from an amazing trip, and whether it’s abroad or in-country, don’t waste time feeling sad about it. Follow these quick tips to restore that holiday happiness!

1) Make a memory book

Whether it’s simply printing off 100 of your best snaps or creating a scrapbook featuring all your souvenir tickets and pamphlets, this will bring back the memories, trigger some great stories to tell your housemates, and make you realize just how fortunate you were to go on such an incredible trip.

2) Preserve your holiday look

If you got a great tan, keep it touched up with plenty of moisturizer, a touch of bronzer and cooler showers. If you crave that beach look, try some salt spray in your hair or, if you’re feeling daring, keep the shorts on for a little longer but layer up with jumpers and tights. Hopefully this will make you feel like you can still look fabulous (like you did in all your holiday selfies) whilst being back home again.

3) Find things you’re looking forward to

It’s always easy to dwell on what’s passed, but now focus on what’s ahead! Autumn is on its way which means crisp leaves, cinnamon and apple spiced baked goods, all the great TV shows and, of course, Starbucks’ pumpkin spiced lattes. Soon after that you’ve got Halloween, fireworks night, and (though this may make you cringe if you’re in denial about the end of summer) the holiday season! There are plenty of things to be happy about even if the weather doesn’t reflect that, so jot these down in a notebook or perhaps make a mood board, either literally or on Pinterest.

4) Share your stories

One of the best things about coming back to uni is seeing all your friends again, or making new ones. You’re all going to have had busy summers, so relish this opportunity to tell them about some of your holiday highlights, either over a standard cup of tea or by sharing some of the foreign treats you’ve brought back home with you.

5) Be a tourist in your hometown

Ranging from checking out cool local cafes or visiting historical landmarks, every town or city has some undiscovered gems that you can visit. Check out an article we’ve already written on this for some more ideas… https://www.hercampus.com/school/nottingham/perks-being-tourist-your-hometown

6) Start planning your next trip!

Potentially the best thing for keeping the holiday blues at bay is to realize that this wasn’t your last trip and there are so many more adventures to come. Whether it’s hypothetical or a sure reality, start googling potential ideas, search blogs, create bucket lists and start looking forward to creating your next unforgettable journey.
