All fashion lovers know that one of the times when fashion’s finest travel to the four fashion capitals of the world to display their creations and collections for the upcoming season has just come to an end once again. Recently it was S/S14 fashion month (even if we have only just got our winter coats out). Here are some of the highlights from all of the S/S14 fashion weeks.

New York Fashion Week

This week is usually one of my favourite fashion weeks to tune into. The jam-packed fashion capital is the first city that fashion weeks start at and New York definitely didn’t disappoint us this time around. Some of the best shows from the week were Carolina Herrera’s patterns of optical illusions, Diane Von Furstenberg’s “Oasis” themed collection, Donna Karan’s exotic tribal designs with an urban edge, Victoria Beckham’s more relaxed monochrome pieces and a futuristically gothic show from Marc Jacobs. Other notable runway shows included Michael Kors, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Betsey Johnson and Vera Wang.

London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week certainly was impressed with many well known fashion designers coming together to produce a universal modern and sleek feel to their collections. Some of the best shows included Mulberry with a feminine and floral silk collection (Emma Hill’s last show as creative director), Burberry with a similarly feminine feel but with more pastels and lace (and of course trench coats), Erdem with a uniformed monochrome collection and Tom Ford who showcased glamorous and luxurious clothes that were to die for. Other impressive shows were Matthew Williamson, Christopher Kane and JW Anderson.

Milan Fashion Week

Milan also showcased some brilliant looks for Spring and Summer with an international and exotic theme throughout the catwalks. Some of the best shows of the week were Prada with the theme of female empowerment with military colours and murals of faces printed onto the clothes, Dolce and Gabbana with rich jewel toned colours and a golden theme that replicated wealth and coins and Versace with a mixture of rebellious rock, soft and sheer. Other stand out shows included Jil Sander, Marni, Fendi and Roberto Cavalli.

Paris Fashion Week

The final stop of the fashion month was Paris, home of some of the most chic and famous fashion houses. Paris certainly provided a fantastic finale. There were great shows from Balmain with an edgy and bold vibe, Christian Dior with a tropical and colourful collection, a bold and dynamic graphic collection from Celine, a futuristic metallic Lanvin collection from Alber Elbaz and of course Chanel with artistic and bright pieces with the classic Chanel twist. Other good shows included Balenciaga, Saint Laurent, Hermes, Miu Miu, Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney. Also Marc Jacobs announced that he will be leaving Louis Vuitton after 16 years and he certainly ended dramatically with an all black lavish collection with tall headdresses and escalators, a carousel and a black fountain to set the scene.
