Good Goings On in December

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

My, my, my! What a busy month we have ahead of us, packed to the brim with goodness!

Shop of the month: The Natural Food Company

A green and ethical shop located just opposite the Victoria Centre, they specialise in food for all sorts of dietary requirements. They also sell a wide range of toiletries including, my personal favourite, shampoo and conditioner made from natural ingredients, reducing all those chemicals that I wash down the drain each day.

Café/Restaurant of the month: Tamatanga

This Indian restaurant is just behind Cornerhouse in town and I honestly cannot overstate just how good they are. They use sustainably and ethically sourced food, renewable energy, recycle their waste, cater for all dietary requirements, have disabled access, and best of all: have free wifi.

December 1st: Volunteer to make decorations for Young Carers

Spend a bit of time making decorations for the Young Carers Christmas Party and help make it as magical as they deserve it to be.

December 3rd: SB Farmer’s Market

The Christmas Farmer’s Market is upon us. Held from 11.30 until 15.30 at Sutton Bonington campus, this is arguably the best one of the year. It is also perfect perusing for any foodies’ Christmas presents that you might need to buy, so get on that Hopper bus and get buying!

December 5th: Help a Community Choir for adults with learning difficulties

They need volunteers to help run the session and choir members. If you don’t have a musical bone in your body that’s fine, you just need to enjoy having fun.

December 9th: Have a ball!

The Snowflake Ball is run by Karni and is easily one of the greatest nights of the year. And it is all for charity. Go get your ballgowns on and fundraise in style. Get your tickets sooner rather than later as they sell like hot cakes.

December 13th: Vintage clothing Fayre

Woohoo! Shopping that is good for the environment! Save those clothes from landfill, reduce demand and resources for new clothes and look spectacular all at once. You’re practically a superhero with all the good you are doing buying vintage!

December 14th: The Great Nottingham Santa Run

Put on your beards and pull up your boots; it is time for the Great Nottingham Santa Race! The funds raised from this sponsored race will help to send terminally ill children and their families to Lapland this Christmas to meet the real Mr Claus! Everyone is welcome no matter your running abilities.

December 21st and 22nd: Regional foods and drinks market

A Christmas edition of the Nottingham Regional Speciality Food Market. Enjoy the festivities in Market Square and afterwards buy some delicious locally sourced and seasonal speciality food just in time for Christmas.

I'm a fourth year at the University of Nottingham and I never want to leave. I blog about easy ways to make a difference in our world and to our community and I spend most of my life online. When the wifi is down though I love to bake, play with dogs, go exploring, maybe do some coursework and (pretend that I can) sing and dance.
