Demetrizia Cabatingan Presenter for Younique!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Demetrizia Cabatingan is a second year American Studies and English student at the University of Nottingham. Last month, she was a presenter for Younique, a make-up company that aims to inspire women all over the world. She talks to Her Campus this week about her experiences and the importance of empowerment through this means in today’s society.

What is Younique?

Younique is a high quality makeup brand that brings its products to consumers through online portals. The company is made up of different presenters who each have their own website. They endorse the products to their friends, family and different outlets such as salons, beauticians, dermatologists etc. Through endorsement, presenters hope to recruit more presenters or sell the Younique products in order to grow their business.

How and why did you get involved?

I got involved with Younique because my aunt suggested it to me as a good business venture and a great way to earn money as a student. My passion for makeup and doing people’s makeup makes the work feel effortless which is exactly why I got involved in the first place. My sponsor, Dodie Glover, was the one who trialled the products on me and because of their quality I just had to be a part of it. With the products speaking for themselves, and the ease of the work, it would’ve been silly to not get involved.

What was the experience like?

The experience so far has been rewarding. Since I am passionate about makeup, it just doesn’t feel like work to me. I often use the products when I am doing freelance makeup artistry and I find that it complements other makeup brands well. I have enjoyed being a presenter because it allows me to do what I love doing whilst earning money!

Would you recommend the products and/or being a presenter to anyone?

I would highly recommend the products to anyone. The mascara especially, it’s my miracle product and after using it I vowed to never use another mascara. The quality of the products speaks for itself. I would also recommend being a presenter to those who enjoy makeup and sharing products with friends and family. It is a great business venture and allows you to be your own boss- working in your own time and your own accord.

Younique describes their mission as “to uplift, empower, validate, and ultimately build self-esteem in women around the world.” In a world where we do have such an emphasis on appearance and we consume so many images every day, do you think this is an important to message to send why?

I feel that Younique’s mission is an absolutely important message to relay unto women everywhere. With social media platforms such as Twitter and Instagram becoming more and more prominent, the pressure to look good and live up to the many images we consume today has continuously increased. By having a mission that uplifts, empowers, and validates women, it relieves some of the unrealistic standards and pressures that these social media platforms put on women.

What would you say is your signature make-up look?

My signature makeup look is definitely a brown smoky eye with a nude lip. It’s a staple look that isn’t too heavy but at the same time enhances you in the right way. Simple, yet effective.

What is the one make-up product you can’t live without?

The one makeup product I cannot live without is definitely the Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes from Younique. I have never used a product so good! It exceeded my expectations and a day is just incomplete until I have applied at least one coat on. I would recommend it especially to those with shorter or straight lashes as it keeps the eyelashes curled and I find that in my case it increases the length of my lashes significantly.
