The Craziest and Most Expensive Easter Eggs of 2017

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Most of us are content with a standard Cadbury shell – provided it comes with 3 crème eggs or at least a couple of chocolate bars. We feel as though we’ve been treated especially if we receive a Thorntons creation with our name inscribed on the front. However, there are many more extravagant options out there for those looking to dig deep in their pockets to satisfy that sugar craving this spring.

BETTYS: Bettys Imperial Easter Egg, £250.00

Named after their Imperial Suite at Harrogate’s Café Tea Rooms, this egg stands at 55cm and consists of over 5 kilos of milk or dark chocolate, made to order. It then gets decorated with intricate spring flowers before being delivered to you personally. It’s just a teeny bit pricier than your standard Deliveroo.

THE CHOCOLATE SOCIETY: Coconut Easter Egg, £29.95

If you’re looking for something a bit more unusual and potentially Instagram-worthy, this is the perfect egg for you. Composed of dark and white chocolate, this egg not only looks but tastes like a coconut. It’s also textured on the inside to look like the real thing, which means it’s far healthier than any other egg out there. We promise.

FORTNUM AND MASON: Family Sharing Egg, £115

Families who make themselves sick by chocolate together clearly stay together. This 1.2kg egg is marketed for sharing with loved ones, and is bursting with sweets, fondant creams and even more chocolate once you crack it open.

HOTEL CHOCOLAT: Your Eggsellency, £27.00

This extra thick egg combines 50% milk and 70% dark chocolate, weighing in at 390g! Filled with some boozy premium-alcohol truffles, it comes wrapped in gold foil and is finished with their signature ribbon. The only downside is that, as stated on their website, this egg is unfortunately “not eligible for letterbox delivery”. Very disappointing.

Hotel Café Royal’s – Valrhona Easter Egg, £600

Designed by executive pastry chef Sarah Barber, this incredible chocolate egg is filled with gold Dulcey pecan nut praline before it gets painted in real, edible chocolate gold leaf. It’s said to take three days to make, but if you find the price tag of London’s mdst expensive Easter egg a little off-putting, there will also be one on display in their hotel lobby for chocoholics to gawk at before sampling some slightly more affordable desserts.
