Charlotte Pacey, the General Secretary of the CD and Record Library

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Meet Charlotte Pacey, the General Secretary of the CD and Record library. Looking for new volunteers, Her Campus decided to catch up with Charlotte to find out what her role entails and more about her music taste.

For people who don’t know, what is the CD and record library?

So, the CD and Record library is a student run service. You pay for membership, which allows you to borrow CD’s for 50p each, and you can also get vinyls for free. We’re open 12-2 on weekdays and even if you don’t want to buy anything there’s always new music playing and you can come and chat to the committee.

What made you want to become involved?

It stood out to me at the fresher’s fair because I love music and it looked like something you could easily get involved in. Also because the guy running the fresher’s fair stall was really fit.

What does your role as General Secretary involve?

I am basically the eyes, ears and mouth of the service; I circulate all emails about meetings and social events, open up shifts, make sure everything is in order, and check that everyone is getting on with their role.

Are you part of a big team?

So last year I was 1 of about 15 which has gone down to 1 of 6 this year, so we are definitely looking for people looking to volunteer or even just become a member.

What is your favourite music genre?

I listen to a lot of band music but have recently got into disco house music which I would listen to on a night out. Fave band at the moment has got to be Tame Impala.

Have you been to any gigs recently?

I’ve been to a few and I’m actually going to see Eagulls tonight at Rescue Rooms, which is sold out.

What is your favourite gig venue (Nottingham or elsewhere?)

In Nottingham it would have to be Bodega, and back home in Leeds it would definitely be Brudenell Social Club.

Have you listened to any Nottingham based bands recently?

The only band I can think of are Crosa Rosa, who are from Nottingham.

Finally, what would you say to anyone wanting to get involved in the society?

If you’d like to get involved just pop down to any shift, we are on the bottom floor of Portland (Mooch level) or email me (aeycp@nottingham.ac.uk). We can easily show you the ropes and would love to have you on board!
