BREAKING NEWS: Fire on Canning Circus

There’s been a fire in one of the shops near Canning Circus. Buses are being diverted with no buses going past the crossroads to town – severe disruptions on Orange buses 34, 35 and 36. Road closures on Ilkeston Road and on top of Derby Road. There are no traffic being allowed to go through the city centre. More information to follow – please see live updates below.

LIVE UPDATES:

6:11 p.m. – the shop that has been set a blaze is an abandoned derelict shop, located next to a shop that was also burnt down last summer. 

6:14 p.m. – two fire engines remain with a small team to make sure that the fire is out. It had taken approximately one hour to extinguish the fire.

6:20 p.m. – there is no confirmation of whether anyone was in the building as of yet. 

6:28 p.m. – traffic has started moving again on Alfreton Road.

6:39 p.m. – traffic is still suspended on Alfreton Road past the cemetry.

7:21 p.m. – traffic towards Canning Circus on Ilkeston Road has been re-opened by the Police.
