Back Home for Christmas? How to Deal with Nagging Parents and Missing Student Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

As the novelty of being home for Christmas begins to wear off and the nagging starts, it’s easy for us to long for student life and the freedom that comes with it. Here’s a couple ways to deal with the downsides of being at home this Christmas.

1. Go out and explore

Whether it’s trying out that new coffee shop or visiting a museum, it’ll be good to spend some time outside of your house and give yourself a breather. With it being Christmas, you’re bound to find something to do and explore no matter how boring you think your town is.

2. Study

Most of us have exams when we get back in January, so revising over Christmas is a given. However, studying also doubles as an anti-nagging solution. Not only are you actually being productive but you’re less likely to be bothered when your family can see you working hard to get those grades.

3. Nights out

Just because you’re at home, it doesn’t mean you still can’t party hard! Take a break from revision, grab your pals and hit the town. Christmas isn’t only about spending time with family but catching up with friends you may not have seen in a while, so it’s perfectly fine to have a couple nights out.

4. Just accept it

Sometimes the best way to deal with things is to make sure there’s nothing to nag about in the first place. Whether it’s about the dishes in the sink or that grad scheme you haven’t applied for yet, your parents only nag you because they care.  Although it may be annoying, where else are you going to find someone to overfeed you with your favourite meals and do your laundry! When you go back to uni, you’ll begin to miss all the home comforts so just make the most of the situation at home, nagging parents and all!
