Awards Season Style: The Low-down

As the Oscars concludes this year’s Awards Season; we’re bringing YOU the highlights and lowlights of this season’s Red Carpet; and giving some awards of our own.

Hottest Colours

Runner Up: Taylor Swift in Elie Saab

Taylor paid homage to the 80s with this party in the front, business in the back Elie Saab gown. The dress is perhaps too prom-dressy but Taylor IS America’s Prom Queen. The shades of turquoise and a splash of pink brought funk to this year’s Grammys.

Winner: Leslie Mann in Kaufman Franco

Leslie’s stylist struck a chord of genius with this lemon form-fitting dress which couples SO WELL with the emerald accessories and a touch of red lipstick.

Cursed Colour of the Season: Blue

Runner Up: Julianna Margulies in Giambattista Valli Couture

The soft, minimalist make-up was on point but did not pair well in this curtain of a dress which overwhelmed her frame.

Winner: Iggy Azalea in Armani

A nice try at demure but this dress was more befitting for… well, let’s face it, an orchestra concert dress. And if you’re going to have illusion mesh on a dress, why have it near your ankles?

Less is not always more

Runner Up: Kim Kardashian in Jean Paul Gautier

This really sparkly dressing gown dress is way too big on Kim. The sleeves are past her fingers and it’s a little too couture with a touch of Liberace.

Winner: Madonna in I don’t know what or why

As the original provocateur, Madonna really didn’t need to moon the Red Carpet to shock us. While I love the intricate details on this Givenchy dress, it’s OTT and I don’t know where to look.

Shoe Cam

Runner Up: Katy Perry in Sophia Webster

Katy Perry brought some Great Gatsby-esque glamour in this Zuhair Muhad dress! But it’s these cream stain three-strap stilettos with the quirky stack bead heels which made this outfit.

Winner: Jennifer Hudson in DSquared2

This is a beaut of a stiletto. And ladies, these gunmetal grey python heels could be yours for £ 2,255.00! Yay! That’s more than half of my Student loan!!

Red Carpet Cutie

Runner Up: Maisie Williams

This dress was just so cute. Maisie gave us an aura of chic sophistication in this red lace dress with nude sheath.

Winner: Keira Knightley in Erdem

More lace yet this look was! Keira is living proof that being pregnant doesn’t and shouldn’t limit your style.

Red Carpet Hottie

Winner: Kate Hudson in Versace

There’s no runner up, okay? Kate Hudson in this daring cut out dress just wins.

Best Dressed Male

Runner Up: Common in Givenchy

The rapper and actor took a monochromatic approach in an all-black tailored Givenchy suit and tie. Fun Fact: He had a manicure to complete this smart look! I just love me some of him…

Winner: Eddie Redmayne in Giorgio Armani

In this crushed blue velvet suit, Eddie’s eccentric elegance sets a new standard for male Red Carpet style.

Belle of the Ball

Runner Up: Gabrielle Union in Gauri & Nainika

Her pulled back hair is sleek, revealing her simple diamond earrings, there’s some serious smokey eye going on AND the gorgeous cut out details of the dress really accentuate her frame.  Understated yet beautiful.

Winner:  Emily Blunt in Michael Kors

This Michael Kors gown was simple yet regal – and fittingly so! Emily is Hollywood Royalty after all, and the crown-braid was the perfect touch. We’re excited to see what she’ll bring to the Oscars Red Carpet.
