Autumn/Winter Coat Edit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Autumn and Winter are by far the best times of the year. It becomes socially acceptable to snuggle up in dark comfy clothes again, some of the best holidays like Halloween and Christmas arrive, Starbucks bring out our favourite festive drinks and above all, we have an excuse to treat ourselves to a brand new coat. It’s always best to buy a coat in advance of the cold winter months as shops release their most stylish pieces around this time of year. Coats can be functional and stylish at the same time and lucky for you, Her Campus have rounded up the best picks and latest trends in outerwear this season.

The Boyfriend Coat  – Topshop Grey Coat – £59

“Boyfriend” or “masculine” coats are really on trend this season. They are simple, flattering and stylish. Most high street shops are offering a straight, clean lined tailored coat this autumn and they come in a variety of colours too. We love this grey Topshop one with pockets, especially with a price of £59!

The Lapel Coat – Mango Lapel Wool Coat – £89

Big lapels are in this autumn/winter. They also look chic in a classic black colour, adding instant, effortless style to any outfit. Most come with belts attached which are really flattering, meaning the coat won’t look too bulky or oversized.

The Cape Coat – Warehouse Checked Blanket Coat – £90

We’re loving the cape coat trend at the minute, especially because it doubles up as a blanket! What more could you want from a coat? It’s perfect for cold chills and is so comfy too so you’ll feel snuggled up all day long. This checked pattern makes a statement while also being stylish.

The Camel Coat – Forever 21 Hooded Wool Blend Coat – £48

For those who like to live on the lighter side of life, a camel coloured coat can be the balance between being warm whilst adding a splash of colour to your dark winter wardrobe. We love that this one comes with a hood for those annoying rainy days.

The Trench Coat – ASOS Classic Mac – £60

You can’t go wrong with a classic trench. They may not be the warmest of coats but if you wear a lot of layers or jumpers, or get hot quite easily, then this is the perfect coat for you!

The Parka Coat – Forever 21 Favourite Parka – £51.75

For those bitterly cold days that are almost unbearable, a simple parka is the best kind of coat. They don’t have to be bulky or unflattering either. A lot of parkas have faux fur and quilted linings, as well as a faux fur hood to keep you extra warm. Almost every high street shop sells them in different lengths, shapes and colours so you are sure to find the perfect one for you.

The Long Coat – Zara Long Coat –  £79.99

Long coats are very similar to boyfriend coats with long clean lines. Made popular by style icons like Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner, a long coat can add instant glamour, especially if you are wearing heels. Alternatively, they can also be dressed down with jeans and trainers for a more casual, everyday look.

The Army Coat – ASOS Army Green Double Breasted Coat – £80

Military coats never go out of style. No matter what the season you always see military themes on the catwalks. Think subtle shoulder pads, bold buttons and a thick wool material. Although they can come in a variety of colours, an army green coat gives a subtle pop of colour to any outfit.

Happy Shopping!
