5 Make-up Products That Will Actually Save You Money

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Let’s be honest ladies: make-up burns a massive hole in your pocket. And with jazzy new products coming out all the time, who hasn’t given into the temptation of buying pretty much everything on the shelf? But with a little bit of ingenuity, it’s easy to make your make-up go that bit further. Here are 5 make-up products that have dual uses, leaving a little extra space in your make-up bag and a little extra cash in your pocket!

1. No7 Pop & Glow Cream Blush Stick (£10.00 at Boots)

Cream blushes are great in themselves because their consistency makes blending to a natural finish that much easier. But they can also be swiped over your lips for a brilliant pop of colour, with the added bonus of matching features. This blush from No. 7 comes in a stick form for easier application, with colours ranging from hot pink to mellow peach.

2. Urban Decay Afterglow Highlight Palette (£27 at Urban Decay)

This palette offers four colours, including bronze and pink, which can be used alone or blended together to create the best strobing effect for you. But when it comes to nights out, you might want to swap your highlighting brush for another kind because the shimmery quality of the powders make them an excellent eyeshadow. And you’re in luck because the colour lasts for 8 hours!

3. Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer (£8.99 at Superdrug)

Eye concealers are a must-have for dark circles on those mornings after. The next time you’re about to put on lipstick, though, don’t be afraid to put some on your lips as a priming base (yes, you can prime your lips!). This will work to remove excess moisture from your lips for easier lipstick application, and will also create a neutral base against which the colour will stand out even more. The Maybelline concealer comes with a micro-applicator so you can be precise wherever you’re applying it.

4. Rimmel London Oh My Gloss Crystal Clear Lip-gloss (£5.49 at Superdrug)

What even is the point of clear lip-gloss? I hear you ask. Well, other than supplementing a bare-faced look with a hint of shine, clear lip-gloss is a ridiculously cheap substitute for those fancy eyebrow gels. Simply dab a little of this gloss onto a brow brush and swipe over filled-in eyebrows to keep them in place for up to 6 hours.

5. Rimmel Soft Kohl Eye Pencil (£2.99 at Superdrug)

You may just kick yourself for not having thought of this before, but eyeliner can also be used to fill in the gaps in your eyebrows. They’re a lot more pigmented than brow pencils, so you might want to apply lightly at first and see how much you need as you go.
