Winter has the tendency to bring all of us down with its cold weather and shorter days. I don’t know about anyone else, but during the winter season, all I want to do is sleep and eat. But there are good aspects of winter as well! For example, the holiday season is just around the corner! This means gifts and time with family. If the winter season has got you down, check out these eight activity recommendations that can make the season more enjoyable:

Go Ice Skating

Ice skating is a fun winter activity that can be done inside or outside, and can even be a nice workout! Be careful and take it slow at first if you’ve never done it before; and for some added difficulty, try going backwards!

Go Skiing or Snowboarding

Show off your athletic prowess on the slopes! It’s a great workout and a lot of fun as well. Be wary of trees and choose your slope difficulty with care.

Look at Ice Sculptures

One of my favorite things to do as a kid was to go and look at ice sculptures. It’s so cool that somebody can take a simle block of ice and make a beautiful masterpiece. They are displayed outside, so it may be a little chilly, but the experience is more than worth it. Plus, you can always get cute pictures by ice sculptures—especially at night!

Drink Hot Cocoa

This is the perfect drink to warm you up during the holidays. Hot chocolate can be as simple as it sounds, or you can get creative with it. Sometimes, I like putting a candy cane in my cup to give it a slight peppermint taste. Also, marshmallows are an easy add to the drink. Hot chocolate is a wonderful pick-me-up and not too much of a hassle to make!

Build Snowmen

Do you want to build a snowman? Well you should, because it is super fun! It’s cool to make a masterpiece and watch it come to life like Frosty or Olaf. This activity takes a good amount of time, but seeing the cheerful results of your efforts is worth it.

Have a Netflix Day-In

Watching movies can be a relaxing way to spend a day…or multiple days! Netflix makes this easy with its wide variety of streamable content. If you are looking for suggestions, head over to Abby Wager’s article for some inspiration!

Have a Snowball Fight

If you have any pent up aggression from finals and need to get some weight off of your shoulders, then hear me out: snowball fights are a ton of fun and a great way to get rid of excess adrenaline. However, I would wait until the snow is easier to pack as opposed to the light snow that comes during the beginning of the winter season.

Take Some Photos

I am always up for a photo opportunity. I like to take pictures of things and people, but I’m also photogenic. It’s fun to go outside and take pictures in a cute winter outfit or of the changing outdoor scenery. This option might just provide you with your next Instagram post!

Even though winter can be drab, we can still live our best lives and make it fab! Have fun this season with these activities to wind down from school and work. Happy holidays!
