As all college students know, winter break is a time for relaxing and rejuvenating after the grueling stress of finals week. However, winter break is also a time for getting together with high school friends and excitedly recounting the past months or years of each others’ lives. As plans are established and everyone comes together at the designated meeting place, everything seems to fall right back into place as you fill each other in on all that has changed since you were last together.
True hometown friends will keep in touch no matter the distance, and these relationships are incredibly valuable to have in your life. The following are some reasons why your hometown friends are so important to you.
1. They know your history.
Your high school friends were by your side as you grew into the person you are now. More specifically, they probably know your relationship history like the back of their hand. Over the years, they’ve kept a mental record of everything from whom you’ve secretly had a crush on forever to who broke your heart.
They were right there with you through all of the high school drama, and they’re there laughing with you now at how ridiculous it all was. Also, they can help you evaluate your current decisions in your love life according to your past experiences.
2. They can provide an outside perspective on things you’re dealing with at school.
High school friends can offer excellent advice on life decisions, and can provide a third-party perspective on issues you’re trying to sort out. Because they are not directly involved, they can offer an impartial opinion on the best possible solution to your problem, and can give invaluable advice. They are also well-trusted, because you know that they have your best interest at heart.
3. They are there to reminisce with you about the great times you’ve had together.
When you’re reunited with your high school friends, you can pick back up right where you left off. Hometown friends are always there to have a good laugh about the past. From petty fights with fellow classmates to hilarious dates-gone-wrong, your hometown friends are there to reminisce about the foolish things you’ve done in the past and to remind you of what you’ve learned from them.
4. Together or apart, they’re always there for you.
Over the years, you’ve been able to grow separately without growing apart. The time that has gone by since you last saw each other and the distance which separates you have nothing on the strength of your friendship.
Whenever a break rolls around, you can look forward being reunited with your hometown friends and catching up on all that has transpired since you were last together. High school friends have a way remaining a constant in your life regardless of how much you grow and change. Best of all, whether you’re home for a break or off at school, you know they’re are always just a phone call away.
