Top Songs For Every End of Semester Experience:

Summer is just around the corner and this is arguably the busiest time of the year– finals, ziplines on south quad, cramming in all of the social time with your friends, and much more. Whether you are travelling the globe or staying home this summer, there is much to do before you get there. Below are cultivated lists of the best songs to match each of the moments left in the semester.

Studying:

Unfortunately the end of the school year brings upon the inevitable—finals. Fortunately, listed below are some of the nicest songs to accompany you as you exercise your wonderfully brilliant brain.

            1) Death of an Unpopular Poet— Jimmy Buffett

            2) Jesus, etc.— Wilco

            3) After the Storm— Mumford and Sons

            4) Forest Green— Big Red Machine

            5) Pleo— The Brazen Youth

            6) River Flows in You—Yiruma

Motivation for Study:

Whether you are trudging from South to Hes or simply sitting at your desk and need a pick me up before you open your notes, here are some songs to put a little bit of pep in your step on your journey or get you going before you exercise your brain.

            1) Stronger— Britney Spears

            2) Bohemian Trapcity— Logic

            3) Finest Hour— Cash Cash, Abir

            4) All My Heroes– Bleachers

            5) Delicate- Seeb Remix — Taylor Swift, Seeb

Packing:

With the finals schedule granting little to no time for the delicate task of packing for the summer, it can be quite the stressful experience. Play these songs as you organize your decorations and clothes into their respective bins.

            1) Exitlude— The Killers

            2)Ocean Eyes- Astronomyy remix

            3) Lonely(feat. MAX)–Matoma

            4) Yes I’m Changing– Tame Impala

            5) Send Me on My Way– Rusted Root

Break-Up:

Summer is the ultimate test for some relationships. Do you DTR? Is long distance feasible? Are you even dating? Sometimes, the easiest thing for the summer is to break things off with the person you are seeing. Official relationship or not, this hurts. Here are some songs to accompany your feelings because they are valid.  Some songs to pick you up are also included. You are so much stronger than you believe, after all.

            1) Bad— Lennon Stella

            2) Greatest Love of All— Whitney Houston

            3) NASA— Ariana Grande

            4) Always Remember Us This Way— Lady Gaga

            5) ME!– Taylor Swift, Brendon Urie

            6)  Bite the Hand— Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus

(also, these three women are AMAZING both individually and together, for sure check them out)

Last Night Out:

Whether this entails a party off campus or a simple get together in your friend’s room, here are some tunes to get you excited for the night to come.

            1) Playinwitme (feat. Kehlani)– KYLE

            2) My Own Thing– Chance the Rapper

            3) Sorry– Beyoncé ( Lemonade is on Spotify now. Yes, a huge deal.)

            4) My My My! — Troye Sivan

            5) Juicy– The Notorious B.I.G.

Quad time:

Although it is essential to spend some time in your favorite study spot at the end of the semester, you also deserve some time to relax, which for many includes laying on a blanket or throwing frisbee on their respective quad. Here are some of my favorites to accompany your outdoor study break.

            1) Groovin’— Pato Banton and the Reggae Revolution

            2) Everybody Wants To Rule the World– Tears for Fears

            3) Outta My Head (with John Mayer)– Khalid

            4) Doo Wop( That Thing)– Ms. Lauryn Hill

            5) Beware the Dog– The Griswolds

Misc. but good songs regardless:

There is enough variety here that you can add them to any playlist you choose!

1) Happy and Sad— Kacey Musgraves

2) Landfill– Daughter

3) Forget Me Nots– Patrice Rushen

4) Rush– Akon, Kardinal Offishall

5) I Wonder– Kanye West

6) Blow it Up– The Vaccines

7) Landslide–Oh Wonder

Hi! My name is Tricia and I'm a part of the class of 2022 at the University of Notre Dame! I am so excited to take on the role of Editor-in- Chief for Notre Dame's talented and growing network of writers. I am studying Sociology and Pre-Medical studies and LOVE to write. My goal for the future is to work in Geriatric Medicine. When I'm not in South Bend, you can find me in Old Lyme, Connecticut. In my free time, I enjoy exploring new music on Spotify, re-watching Sex and The City or The Mindy Project, cheering on the Irish football team and paddleboarding.
