I’ll admit, I’m not much of a sports connoisseur. However, after spending a fair amount of time in Stanford Hall, I have come to accept the fact that if I want to keep my guy friends, sports is a thing that I have to be okay with. (Like the “two computers, one TV, two iPhones all playing different games-kind of okay with.”)

So, I may or may not have been more in-tune with sports happenings this football season.

These past few weeks have been full of NFL playoff games, in an effort to find those two golden teams for the Super Bowl XL VIII. The Seattle Seahawks have a shot at it and this has fired up the city of Seattle. After the Seahawk’s win yesterday (23-15 against the New Orleans Saints), this team of Seattle’s best will compete in the NFC Championship next Sunday. Their success certainly owes the team and the city it boasts some attention.

For the little amount I know about NFL football, I do know the Seattle Seahawks are the coolest NFL team ever. Why, you Midwesterners ask? What do you, Miss Florida, know about Seattle? WELL… here’s why Seattle and the Seattle Seahawks are super awesome.

Disclaimer: This will probably be the one of few sports articles I will write so read up.

The Seahawks are cool because:

1.  Rick Mirer, former QB, graduated from Notre Dame and was the #2 pick of the 1993 NFL draft.

(He now owns a winery in Napa Valley…what a domer.)

2.  Matt Flynn was too hot for the rainy weather, so the Oakland Raiders stole him from Seattle.

(I guess ya do what ya gotta do…) #bummer

3.  They are the only NFL team in the Pacific Northwest…so that automatically makes them #1.

4.  Nine-year olds get their hair “tattooed” with the team’s logo. (Exhibit A: my cousin.)

5.  Seattleites decorate their homes like this:

(And, as you can see…invite you inside.)

6.  The 12th man. (A.k.a…the fans.)

7.  They are the only team in the NFL with the same first three letters in their city and team name. (Claps)

8.  The Seahawks have the best Monday Night Football winning percentage. (19-8 to be exact…)

9.  The Seahawks are always donating to the UW medical center children’s hospital and U district elementary schools.

10.  They’re just really fun!

And to think my dad thought I knew nothing about football…

Now.

Seattle is cool because:

1.  The Seattle Space Needle. (You know…the pointy thing?)

2.  In a half hour’s drive down a mountain you can see this:

3.  Then this:

4.  Then this:

(2 points: It is NOT always rainy and a trek down the mountain is basically like the Midwest weather.)

5.  Ever had salmon? It’s probably from here. Ever had a tall decaf Pike at Starbucks? Definitely from here:

6.  Sleepless in Seattle…HELLOOOO!

7.  Tulip Fields….

(I was such a daydreamer in my younger years…)

8.  Starbucks. I repeat…Starbucks.

(The original)

9.  Microsoft loves Notre Dame. Therefore, it is not difficult to spot an ND grad in Seattle.

10.  I was born there….do you really need to know anything else?
